OK, so I'm new here. In fact, I just created this account because I have a problem and I'm really hoping someone can help me.

First off, I'm totaly new to this whole TV-on-PC thing. I just bought myself a Hauppauge HVR-2250 card. And from everything I have been able to learn about this in the past 4 or 5 days since I got my card, it's a very nice one.

Now my problem, is that I can't find any decent damned software apparently anywhere on earth, which will allow me to use my new card, to watch and record the ClearQAM channels which I get from my cable company.

I DO already know that my cable provider (Comcast) is sending me about a dozen ClearQAM channels, including a few that I'd really like (PBS, Discovery, & History Channels). The reason I know that, is because there exactly ONE piece of software which DOES let me view them. It's the WinTV software which came with my card. But WinTV is basicly a total waste of my time because apparently it was written by some aliens or robots who have absolutely no concept of interface design or usefull features. And other than that one piece of software, so far EVERY other thing I've tried either doesn't work with my card, or doesn't support recieveing clearQAM channels.

I have already tried using the modual software from Hauppage which is supposed to add ClearQAM support to windows media center, but that is beta software, and I couldn't even get it to work correctly. Besides the fact that it works as a jurry-rig kind of deal which disables media center's ability to use ATSC and also turns up with a bunch of incorectly numbered channels so that I can't get the channels setup with the channel guide.

I've tried a number of other television software packages, but all of them either suck, or don't work with my card, or cost at least $80 to $120. (or any combination of those problems)

So basicly, this GB-PVR software here, is my last chance before I just give the hell up on the whole idea of ever watching a really clear TV channel on my computer.

Now the problem with GB-PVR, is that apparently it also does not support my card. At least, it doesn't have my card listed in it's setup options. Although it DOES have lots of other Hauppauge cards, including a couple which are almost identical to my card, hardware-wise.

So what I'm wondering, is if there is any way to GET GB-PVR to work with my card? And if so, exactly how would one go about doing that? From what I was reading in some other forum posts, I get the idea that I might be able to edit something in a file to get it working. So could someone please give me some info about that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. And I'm sorry for the long winded post here, but I like to be very clear when posting. I can provide any furthor information which might be needed.

No one has had a 2250 yet so we haven't been able to create a device entry to support it. If you run FilterCheck.exe located in the GBPVR program folder, it will produce a file called FilterCheck.log. Zip and post that file and we can create the entries necessary to get GBPVR to recognize and use the 2250. Someone (probably sub) will post the required entry, and you should be able to add it to the ini files and get it working in minutes.

I also just bought the 2250 and i am experiencing the same issues. I am currently at work but i will send the info if someone else hasnt done it yet when i get home. I have been using GBPVR for several years now and have always enjoyed it. It can be a bit challenging at times to make it work properly but it has better features than anything else.

OK, I just ran FilterCheck, and here is the entire log file from it... I'll post it as both an attachment so that people can look at it elsewhere, and as text here in this post. And thankyou to everyone willing to help me out here.

Try adding these to your bda.ini file:

[Hauppauge HVR-2250]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
FILTER_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA Digital Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

[Hauppauge HVR-2250 (QAM)]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=2
FILTER_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA Digital Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

Do you have the direct.ini settings? I'd like to get confirmation that this works too.

No, not off hand. I was going to wait until someone actually had one of these and was trying to setup analog. Have you got one and need it now?

There is also a patch needed for analog on this device, but that patch is already available in one of the HVR2200 threads.

No I don't, we get things cheaper locally through the retail channel (HD PVR $232 next week) I thought maybe Nichodeamus could test as a favour. Wink

I would be happy to. I'm sure it will be nice for others to be able to just use this card without issues. So, just tell me what I need to do.

For analog try adding this to the direct.ini file:

[Hauppauge HVR-2250 (analog)]
INIT_MODE=ECP
INIT_MSP=0
SUPPORTS_FM_RADIO=1
BLACKBIRD=1
CONEXANT=1
FORCE_ENCODER=1
FILTER_CROSSBAR=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog Xbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog Capture
FILTER_TV_TUNER=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog TV Tuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog TV Audio
FILTER_ENCODER=Hauppauge WinTV-7164 MPEG2 PS Encoder/Mux
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio
PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=I2S Audio
PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=Analog ITU Video
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

You'll also need the updated NativeUtilities.dll from this post: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...stcount=15. This patch will be rolled into main build for the next release.
