If instead you'd pointed them both at the same xmltv file then you'd have only ended up with one channel, used by both capture sources.Ok, I trashed all digital and analog channels last night and started again, creating all via the epg import.
Things seem much more stable. But triangle tv (tritv) which is not in the epg, I had to add manually, but this appears twice because I added it to each analog capture device.
I assume I need to have all channels on each capture device if I want to record one analog channel and watch the other? Normally if one device is in use (recording) and I want to watch another channel, gbpvr will find the other device which is free and start playing the second channel on it, right?
The problem is, in the case of say Prime (which comes in via the epg), it's only shown once in my list of (analog) channels, and if I want to record it then gbpvr will choose a free device and start recording it. But if I then want to start recording tritv, since it appears twice in the tv guide (and each one is tied to a particular capture device), which one do I choose? Also I don't know which is which (unless I call them tritv1 and tritv2).
I guess I can try clicking one and if it says the device is in use I can try the other. Not slick but that'd work.
But then what if I schedule two recordings? Imagine the scenario: recording on (digital) device1 from 5:59-7:02, and scheduled for recording Prime at 6:59-8:02 and tritv from 7:29-8:02. I could choose that the tritv one is made on tritv2, but if the recording on Prime is to start first, maybe it'll choose device2 (especially if a digital recording is finishing off on device 1), meaning that the tritv2 recording will fail.
Basically what I'm saying is, if I want to watch a particular channel which appears twice in the tv guide (or program it to record), since that channel is tied just to the one device, that device may be busy, right? And gbpvr won't automatically show me another that channel on another device, because it's actually in the tv guide as another discrete channel?
Incidentally, it seems the same issue occurs with digital channels; some aren't in the djkxml file (eg freeview|HD or tvcentral... not that they are too important to me), and if I say update channels from the dvb-t epg broadcast, I get a bunch of duplicates. So instead if I add the digital channels manually then go to 'map digital channels to epg channels', and do this for each capture device, I get those extra channels twice in the tv guide (each presumably mapped to a specific device). So I guess when watching one of these, I've lost the ability for gbpvr to automatically find a free device for me (since I have to choose one mapped to a particular device).
Hmmm....
