I have no epg to set up. I can't subscribe to the online one as it costs, and i haven't figured out an alternative. Do I require epg, or is there a way to manually set the channels?

It depends which country you're in. I'm assuming you're in the US... Yes, there is several free EPG options, but they're not as easy to use as SchedulesDirect. A popular free option is mc2xml: http://mc2xml.110mb.com/

You can set the epg to 'none' and manually create the channels, but you'd lose most of the benefits of GB-PVR by doing this.

I'm gong to be installing this system at a customer's house who has cable which I believe will provide an epg. If this is true, I'll only be using the manual setup for testing purposes.

The GB-PVR license states that it is not to be used for commerical purposes. You shouldnt be installing it for "customers".

You misunderstand. I built a system for a lady and included in that is the ability to watch and record tv. No commercial use is intended. She just isn't savvy enough to begin to try to set it up. I'm seeing that i'm only barely able myself.

This is exactly what I dont want happening. Assuming you've collected money for the machine you've sold to her, or services to set it up, then i dont want you installing GB-PVR to sweeten the deal, regardless of whether you didnt explicitly charge them for GB-PVR.

Dont install it for your customers. If they want it, then they can download and install it themselves. If they're not capable enough to do this, then they should go without or find some other application.

Without sounding stupid, why would you release a software to be freely used, then limit the use of that program only to people who possess significant computer skills? I charge for my time to provide whatever computer assistance someone requires. I'm only trying to provide the solution my customer desires. I would think that you would be glad that anyone chose your creation to provide that solution and that people like me would help in the realization of that goal. Apparently we come from two very different points of view... I will find a different interface to use and recommend to others. Sorry if i've offended you in whatever way.

No matter how you try to gloss it up, you're selling a machine with GB-PVR loaded on it. Effectively you're distributing GB-PVR without permission. This is not covered under the license, which only allows for personal use, and explicitly rules out distribution. I have commercial agreements with other parties which make this a problem.

You may not think its a problem with one machine, but at what point do you think I should start getting pissed off.... 5/500/5000/50000 machines?

I believe it was an honest mistake on your part though, and I'm sure you're aware now. There other applications that dont have these sorts of restrictions, so I'm sure you'd be able to find something to meet your needs.

I am aware now. You're telling me that if my sister downloads it herself, then after acquiring and setting up, i get involved to tweak the install, that would not violate your distribution restriction? Again, I didn't consider myself as distributing it with a new pc. She asked about several options and I got all of them and tried them all. I would be happy to have them download it by themselves on their own machine if that would be allowable...? Either way I want to know because you seem to have the best solution for my needs and i'd like to get it going for myself.
