I have it boot to full screen mode and don't do anything else.
Also if I exit out of it, or go to a menu, it looks normal. Though the second time I did it, windows did look funny.
Might see about the driver.

The driver's a good idea, though this is the most recent one (10/07/08 I think). I suppose I could roll back to previous versions and see if it suddenly stops happening at some point....

I did try the Ghost drivers for the card but they had so many other problems I quickly uninstalled them.

Looks to me like the graphics card gpu or memory is overheating.

Is it the model with or without a fan?

try it with the lid off for a while to see if that helps. If it does, you need better case cooling.

If it is a passively cooled card, they need better case cooling to draw the heat away.

With the fan; the case temp is 86 degrees.

I didn't have this problem prior to the GBPVR and driver upgrade. I suppose it's possible that the new drivers make it run hotter, but that wouldn't explain either the lack of problem when not running other apps or that reinstalling the driver fixes it temporarily. Just rebooting doesn't do a thing, which it would if the reboot associated with a driver reinstall was letting it cool or something.

Doesn't hurt to try it though, so here we go.....

I ran last night with the case open just to see how that went. Unfortunately it didn't seem to make any difference.

I did note that it seemed to take a lot longer for this to happen when I brought up IE vs. Firefox; not sure why that would be.

I also noted that Playback aren't affected, only Live TV.

The screen corruption screenshot looks like what you get when you graphics card is borked but if it is only on live tv, it could be the tuner card that is overheating.

Ferretman, what tuner are you using? Andy is using one or more HVR-2250 cards.
Your logs are a little light on detail. Perhaps you can set logging level to debug, reproduce the problem and upload the logs again.

When a pc locks up entirely it is usually a hardware or driver problem, not a codec or gbpvr problem.

I believe it's a Happauge PVR-150, though I need to double check that. I need to repeat that I had no problem at all prior to my upgrade, though I won't rule out the possibility that something got honked. Might be reasonable to have an excuse for a new card....

No problemo.

Well it doesn't "lock up" entirely, just the video goes wonky. If I gave that impression my apologies. I've not had any problems running other apps before, during, or after this fun stuff.

Okay, been running around a bit the last couple of days (parties and such) but finally have time to post some updates.

I forgot to set the logging to Debug, so I've got nothing new to post there for ya--my apologies. I've fixed it this morning and will probably post something later today or tonight.

The problem continues to happen irregularly. When it happened with the case off and my temps at only 80.3 degrees I decided it probably wasn't an overheating problem and put the lid back on.

Definitely happens more often with apps like Firefox and Outlook up then with Internet Explorer. No idea what that means.

I was wrong about needing to reinstall the driver--I just need to reboot. At least that's faster.

Barring something indicative being in the logs, I'll probably start rolling back the Nvidia drivers one increment at a time to see if something there is running amuck.

The tuner is an Hauppauge Win-TV PCI PVR-150. I hadn't had any trouble at all prior to this upgrade process, so I'm loath to think it's hardware at this point. Can't rule it out, of course, but it seems quite a coincidence.

When I just run the TV and don't do anything at all else, it never seems to go all wonky/wavy.

Will post updated/beefier logs probably later today.

Well heck, that didn't take long.

New logs with Debug turned up attached.

Having spent a few more days with this I am finding some things that seem to make it worse or better:
  • Running with Outlook Express [b]definitely[b] makes it happen very quickly, usually within just a few minutes.
  • I switched the MPEG-2 Playback Video and Audio Decoders from System Default to CyberLink--this seems to make it take longer to happen.
  • If I do nothing else whatsoever except watch GBPVR it doesn't seem to happen at all.

I'm guessing there are no ideas out there....dang.......

Oh well, hope all this helps somebody.

I too am having the same problem. The computer is a dedicated computer (runs PVRX2 on startup). I did not have the problem until I upgraded to the latest release of gb-pvr (1.3.7). After upgrading, I had problems with the computer locking up while trying to watch live tv (The screen would just freeze and the keyboard, mouse, and remote were all unresponsive). So, I tried reverting back to version 1.2.13 and the computer is still having problems. The hardware is an Athlon X2 5000+, 4G ram, Gigbyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard with onboard HD3200 graphics, PVR-250 tuner, and Dvico FusionHDTV5 RT Gold tuner. Any help would be appreciated on this. I am currently using ffdshow for the decoder. Attached is the log files for the latest happening.
