I did a search but haven't seen this mentioned before.

All my channels scan and work properly with HDHR Manager / VLC. I have the tuner configed for Digital Cable, Other, and have done the registry edits.

My problem is channel mapping. Using either the Qam.ini Manager or the HVR1600 qam.ini file I am able to scan SOME channels. Only 7 channels out of 60+, but what's really weird is it lists them over and over and over again. Ever channel it scans, it adds the same 7 channels to the found channel list.

I am able to succesfully map those channels, and everything works fine.

So I'm guessing my problem is still the qam.ini file. Yet I have tried everything posted so far Sad Would all HDHR's use the same qam.ini file? If so, would someone be willing to post their working one? Or is there something else I need to try?

Thank you!

Do you have any software firewalls running? If so, you need to add exceptions for PvrX2.exe, Config.exe and GBPVRRecordingService.exe

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I added all the proper exceptions to the windows firewall.

I decided to clear my logs and rescan so I can post the config log. Wont you know the channel scan is acting completely different today. I haven't changed anything since my last post. But now its finding channels... lots of "Unknown" channels. I haven't counted how many, but most have duplicates (with and without "AC3" next to the name). Unfortunately its not listing the channel call sign as it was before (for the small number of channels it found), so mapping these may be a nightmare. But it looks like it might work.

I've attached my config log, in case this behavior is still unusual.

UPDATE: I started going through all the previews from the channel scan, and it looks like its just the same 6-12 channels repeated over and over again Sad

By the way, here is the channel/frequency listing I get from scanning with the HDHR setup utility. Wish I could just import this in gbpvr Big Grin

Can you try performing steps 5 and 6 again and then rescanning: http://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5449

Note that I made a change to step 5 today. You have to first set the app to GBPVR, apply the changes and then to Custom. You will select "Digital Cable" as the signal source.

Also, make sure you've removed the semicolon (";") from the TUNING_SPECIAL line. You didn't post your config.exe-native.log so I couldn't tell if you had or not.

Unfortunately it doesn't contain enough information. I may try to see if I can get them to include PIDs in the lineup.

That made a difference. I didn't have the "BDADemodulator" key in my registry. Still not working 100%, though. There are still a TON of these "UNKNOWN" channels found. But now mixed in are correctly identified channels. I noticed, however, that its only identifying channels which have a "guide number" in the HDHomeRun Setup scan. Unfortunately thats only 12 out of about 60 channels.

I've attached the new config.exe log.

That scan looks right. We HDHomeRun users were actually spoiled previously. We remapped the channels and then when we scanned in GBPVR, the only results we got were the channels we had mapped which all included names that were injected by the HDHR remapping process. What you are seeing now is the raw PSIP information that is in the streams from the cable company which may or may not include the channel names. IF it doesn't include them, GBPVR marks them as "Unknown". This is what users of all other QAM device have always experienced. The scan results now contain all channels and they may or may not be encrypted. You will just need to go through them, clicking on each one.

It sucks but until we can force cable companies to include proper PSIP data, we're stuck with it. You can always use the remapping technique by setting the application to MCE, but you would lose the multi-record capabilty (which can be extremely handy for QAM users).

Once you finish the mapping on one tuner, use JavaWiz's WizBdaChannelTool ( http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/WizUtilities )to copy the mapping to the other tuner. You will need the supporting WizDlls as well.

Thanks a bunch! I was able to get all my channels mapped.

I don't doubt what you say about channel scanning, but I'm curious why the HDHR Utility can scan and map automatically? I understand HDHR uses an online lookup service... I thought the whole point was that software should be able to use the channel map the HDHR software makes? And even if GBPVR cant hook in to the HDHR utility for any reason, shouldn't it at least filter out the encrypted channels? In linux at least its very trivial to write a script the scan the HDHR channels, and create a list of only unencrypted signals.

I'm just thinking out loud here. It's not much of a bother either way to me, it didn't take me too too long to filter through everything and map by hand. Thanks again!

GB-PVR puts an * next to the unencrypted channels it finds.
