I was not sure where to post this question, here or the mvp section. I decided here since some of the issues that brought me to this point were under this support thread. I'm using the latest version and my question relates to HD (ts) files.
Here's a brief history of steps taken and resolved reading through the various posts hoping that it may also help someone else:
1. Could not scan QAM: sub helped greatly with this one. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...light=scan I was able to finally map my channels. I had to do it manually, cut and paste, but it was worth it.
I am now able to record various programs using ts-mux without any glitches. What a great feature!
2. Could not playback ts recorded file on computer using PVRX2 interface. (Can play them perfectly using VLC) After scouring through the posts I played around with playback settings and finally came out with a good combo. Now using ffdshow decoders for playback.
3. On PC could play video but no audio or in slow mo. Downloaded and added AC3 filter. Could now play audio but out of sync. Adjusted AC3 lag and ticked reinit. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...hlight=ac3.
4. Tried to watch through mvp. Mvp kept resetting after pressing play. In config file added <MvpTranscodeTS>false</MvpTranscodeTS> that did the trick (I think).
Now... I am able to "play" the file without crashing the mvp but all I get is a blank screen. I can stop and go back to the main menu so I'm assuming that is playing buy I'm just not seeing it. I tried the suggestion of <UseBuiltInTSReader>false</UseBuiltInTSReader> http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ght=reader
but to no avail.
Is it possible for someone to give me some insight on what to try next. As a side note my files are less than the 4GB problems reported. I'm so close to Nirvana!!

Sorry, thats not going to work. You QAM files will most likely contain either AC3 audio or high definition video, neither of which the MVP can play. If you want to use QAM transport streams on a MVP like device, you really need the popcorn hour instead of the MVP.

"missed it by that much".....

Thank you so very much for your speedy reply. I'm not ready to fork over $$$ for a new toy (although Christmas is around the corner...ummmm) so I'll have to work on converting ts to mpeg so I can view it on the TV ... until Hauppauge decides to update their drivers.

Another journey begins!

On a side note. I see in task manager that PVRX2.exe is running as a system service on startup. When I intentionally run PVRX2.exe I see two processes; one started by the system and the other started by the user (me). Is this intentional? If not, how can I disable the system process so it doesn't take up resources?

The one started by System is for the mvp. You have entered in config that 1 mvp-server should be run, that's what you are seeing.

Sorry, but I can assure you Hauppauge wont be updating anything on the MVP that'll allow it to play these streams. The MVP hardware is only capable of playing standard definition MPEG1/MPEG2 video files, and MP3 audio files.

The mvpmc dongle understands ts files but the AC3 audio will out of sync, but it won't understand HD streams which is what you want to play.

If you want to watch recordign and not live TV, if your machine is powerful enough to transcode on the fly, the default conversion settings for ts files needs to be modified, because by default it just remuxes to mpeg-ps rather then transcoding to SD mp2 audio.

What is to stop 'on the fly' transcoding of these files (including ac3 to 2 ch audio)?

I just found out that I can only get 1 Clear QAM signal in my area, PBS - nice!, but it's not enough to justify buying a 1600 or whatever so I can play with these ts files.

But I would love to download a sample and play with on the fly transcoding.

I know it has something to do with installing a mux so that it can be transcoded using trans2vmp.exe (is that right?)
