Before you buying an IR Blaster, you should check if your set top box supports firewire channel control. I've never used it myself, but its a relatively popular option in the USA.

It appears that I do not have firewire - What is the IR receiver and blaster I must buy to control my settop box using the GBPVR?

The most popular ones are the USB-UIRT or the MCE Remote/Blaster.
