I originally had this problem back when X2 came out, but couldnt figure it out so stayed with 1.x

Now that I have a new system and the new interface looks mint, I thought I'd give it another go - unfortunately I still have the same problem.

Config: PVRX2 1.3.7 - Athlon64 X2, ATI HD3200 (Integrated) and a PVR150MCE

If I use any MPEG2 decoder other than MainConcept, when watching LiveTV the video gets slower until it starts jerking around and the sound skips. I have tried a few others but they all gave the same results. If I switch from one of these decoders to MainConcept without a reboot, the problem remains (until I reboot). This was also a problem for me on my old PVR 1.x install but it seemed to work fine with the MainConcept decoder so I lived with it.

I tried out a recording tonight (Cars movie on TV2), and while it recorded fine, I was unable to play it back in PVRX2. I tested in Media Player and its fine, if I change to another MPEG2 decoder it plays fine - just not with the MainConcept MPEG2 decoder. I don't know which decoder Media Player selected to play it.

Any ideas on things to try?

Maybe try these decoders:

Thanks sub

Seems to be working ok now - although I did have to reboot after changing then decoders as it would only play sound for ~1 sec then stop. Rebooted and all seems good - fingers crossed.

Cheers again

Think i may have spoken a little early - With those two decoders I am back to the original problem where it plays for a few (10-15) mins and slowly gets slower until the sound breaks up and then stops.

Maybe check if there is updated video card drivers. They might help.

I gave up trying to figure it out but noticed someone else said they had graphics related issues on a newer ATI card and eventually upgraded to Vista.

I have done the same and as best I can tell, problems have disappeared. I can run the MPV/MPA decoders you suggested and they are working perfectly. Not sure what the difference is, but as long as the wife is happy who cares Smile

Sentient,
Vista helped your Problems?
I've been going nuts trying to get smooth video.
I've even did fresh install XP SP3.
My system runs well - fixed all the hang problems,
But I keep getting a glitch, stall every 2 to 10mins.
I've been told its a 24fps to 29fps problem.
I've been told that Vista will cure this problem.(Directx10)
Did you have this problem?
Currently using VMR9 fullscreen exclusive with NVidia Pure and AC3.
This system used to do BEV HD 1080i on their premium channels with decryption, with no problems.

Any comments will be welcome
TIA

I think it's safe to say that Vista has fixed all my problems so far.

I had a fresh install of XP w/ SP3 with all newest drivers on it previously, and couldnt get any kind of consistant MPEG2 playback - the video would start stuttering and keep getting worse until the sound stopped and video played at, what looked like 2-3 frames/sec. I tried several different MPEG2 video and audio decoders - all gave the same results in varying degrees. I also tried different muxes - same problem. Change from VMR9 Custom, to FS Exclusive, and to Overlay - all the same problem. Divx/xvid/etc encoded movies and mp3 music all played fine.

Gave up and installed Vista w/ SP1 and all newest drivers. Installed GBPVR 1.3.7 with MPV/MPA Decoders. Setup my PVR150 with HIP and everything has worked perfectly. I even installed a few other MPEG decoders (ffdshow, cyberlink, ati) and they all seem to work fine as well. To be honest, I have no idea what is changed other than perhaps it was an issue with the ATI HD3200 (DX10 compatible) driver in XP that doesnt exist in Vista - except that I have the same problem with my old hardware on XP and it was NVIDIA chipset with an NVIDIA graphics (6600GT DX9) card. *shrug*

I also had similar problems a long while back when PVRX2 was first released so I stayed with the old version on my old hardware. Tempted to install Vista on the old hardware temporarily to see if it fixes the problem there too.

These problems sound like they may be the quartz.dll issue. It probably goes away with Vista being installed as that issue is probably fixed, though I can't say...
