New install and no / slow sound

I have installed the latest version on a new Vista machine and am having problems on replay. Initially I had no sound and in desperation installed Pinnacle TV Center Pro in the hope that it would add all necessary codecs.

My files now play perfectly through the Pinnacle program but on GBPVR the sound is in slow motion. Live TV plays fine as do Netradio and MP3s. Does anybody have a suggestion?

More than likely the pinnacle software installed its own codecs and they only work right with it's own software...

I would download GSpot to see what type of codec your video files use, then download the appropriate codec

Or you could try a codec pack. They often suit your needs with just a default install

Sorry, I really do wish I understood what you are telling me but I don't.

I have downloaded gspot but it still does'nt tell me anything I understand. It says my files are:

MPEG2 transport stream
Mime Type: video/mp2t

I could try a codec pack but what codec pack and from where?

Well it means you need to install a codec that will play the video file you want to watch. Pinnacle didn't help becuase you need a codec to be installed system wide

In other words, if the file plays in Windows Media Player, then it will be fine in GB-PVR

You need an MPEG decoder. THere are a few that are free and some you pay for. Try MPV (video) and MPA (audio) decoders from

I have installed MPA decoder and again I have no sound. If I change the file from .ts to .mpg it plays with sound in MediaPlayer. I am obviously doing something wrong somewhere but I don't know what. AC3 filter not installed.

I thought I had an answer as the renamed .mpg file plays on GBPVR and MVP from the video library with good quality sound.

I turned on processing - convert to MPEG 2 but the resulting file plays with very poor quality sound - not slow, but just poor quality. Is there a way to just re-name the files rather than converting?

Kinda strange that you can rename the ts file to a MPG and it will play.

Although some like to convert, I prefer to fix the problem...

First of all, I suggest getting the K-Lite Codec Pack (Full), but only install the defaults. During install it may suggest to uninstall some software you may have already installed, to avoid redundancy.

Then set the video decoder to Cyberlink and the Audio decoder to AC3Filter...

Check back with results.

On a separate note, TS files (more often than not) will not play on the MVP without some processing. I'm working on a fix. When you get playback working, we can work on that too

Well then you will have great succes with the MVP. Cool!

Codecs have been a problem for many people from the start. Probably because there are as many opinions as there are codecs. If there would be one or five video formats, then it would be an easy task. Just install the five codecs and you're set... But that isn't the case

I just installed the latest K-Lite myself and have to admit there is far too much user interaction during install for my liking. I prefer the 'install, no questions, reboot and works' approach.

That's why I suggested just install the pack and use only defaults (click OK to almost everything)

When I installed, I actually first selected 'nothing' and then turned on only the things I wanted, but that's opinion, and difficult to express and support...

Sometimes it is better to uninstall other competing software before installing a codec pack (sometimes it will ask you, other times not).

But I don't believe too much can go wrong that can't be corrected, so I would suggest installing the pack using defaults and then check it out. You can always uninstall the pack

As usual I was impatient and went ahead with K-Lite. The result was no sound again on both .MPG and .TS.

I have done a system restore and now have sound back on the .MPG files systemwide.

Current situation is that Pinnacle will happily play .TS or .MPG files with sound.

Windows Media will play .MPG files as will GBPVR. GBPVR has no sound on .TS files and Windows Media does not recognize them. Is there a way to have GBPVR rename the files to make them available?
