Please don't tell people it won't work. I would not have posted a solution that I had not already tried.

No unticking a box is not risky. Unticking another box to solve different problem isn't risky either. In my opinion, it gets messy when one application starts messing around with the configuration of another application. Would you want a third application to mess with the configuration of gb-pvr for it's own benefit? I didn't think so.

Neither solution is "wrong". It's just a matter of personal preference. Any method of preventing ehtray from invoking Media Center is just fine. After further thought, my preference is to do so without losing some MCE functionality when gbpvr is not running. This means not suspending, but killing ehtray when starting gbpvr and restarting it when gbpvr exits. Among other things, my notebook has MCE buttons on it that do not work when ehtray.exe is not running (it turns out that ehtray is not just for remotes).

Another person may not care at all about MCE, so there is nothing wrong with him permanently disabling ehtray. As long as he undoes it before selling/giving/donating the machine to somebody else...

OK, bottom line, does anyone have this remote working with GBPVR? Can it or does it have to be remapped? I want to use it on Vista64 home premium. It looks like the best deal now IF it will work in GBPVR. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WR2...e=&seller=

I am open to other remote/IR combos or just working IR receivers. (I am going to use my harmony anyway)

I'm gonna say yes cos mine looks identical, but it came 2nd hand off ebay so can't say for sure if it's pinnacle or not and i'm using XP Pro SP3 not vista.

I just followed the instructions on the wiki for installing HIP - including the part where it send you to the HIP website to replace the drivers with their own modified ones - maybe check the HIP webite for Vista info. All the buttons are mappable and I don;t have any 'default' windows behavior getting in the way.

I got this remote to work using the IR Server Suite. The important buttons work, but unfortunately not all of them. And for the first time today I'm having an issue with the numbers on the remote not working.

Thanks, have your tried eventghost or HIP? Also, what buttons don't work? Any other comments on getting it running?

The remote looks like the Hauppauge MCE kit remote, though I'm sure there are many variations being used out there...

I would suggest using IR Server suite over HIP. It seems to much easier to work with, and you don't need to mess with alternate drivers anymore. (there is a reg tweak to disallow the remote from directly controlling MCE

I tried HIP and after a few hours of frustration I tried "IR Server Suite" and everything worked fine, like the menu guide buttons, the windows logo button channel up and down buttons, all the play and skip buttons at the top of the remote. The colored buttons didn't work and there were a couple of issues there.

The only thing happening right now is that the numbers on the remote aren't working. I've posted my particular problem in a new thread listed under "support". The thread is called: IR Server Suite and MCE Remote to control "Live TV". Hopefully I will get an answer there.

I'm sure with all three programs you can get all buttons working. But IR server suite is by far the easiest. So easy, I haven't bothered writing an extra wiki page for it...

I agree with "zehd". IR Sever Suite is much easier to use than HIP. I am also using the same exact remote as pictured above, except mine is black.

Great, thanks for the tips. I just wanted to make sure I didn't get one that I could not configure. I really only need the receiver, then I will teach my Harmony everything and ebay the remote itself.
