mce (hauppauge) receiver can receive any commands?

Hi Guys,

just trying out IR server with an Hauppauge MCE remote and transceiver and it seems like that the combination can receive and process any IR signal. For instance, I set my universal remote to TV (which is set to my sony TV) and IR server can figure it out. As an example, I mapped my "1" key to "111" and it worked. Can anyone else confirm this?

If this is true, then I don't need my universal remote to learn the mce commands which can save a lot of overhead nor do I really need the mce remote.

i wouldn't doubt it, same with HIP too...can use any remote...
all the hardware is basically the same..only difference is the frequency, which is standardized now too..so any remote receiver should be capable of 'learning' other remotes, as long as the controlling software can handle it...

from what i remember, the standard irrremote.ini should be able to also as it now has added learning capability and does MCE remote beanbag too...
i even built one that could 'learn' from scratch for about 3$
[had to use Winlirc]
so i could use the original remote from the vcr i gutted for a pc case...
