As it says on the tin really - Does GBPVR Support DVR-MS Playback? Additionally how can I play .wmv files through GB PVR and My MVP?

Any Advice greatly appreciated.

As of the last release you should be able to play wmv files through you MVP.

You can play DVR-MS files, but only on the PC not the MVP.

DVR-MS is a Microsoft Specific Wrapper for the MPEG2 data from the TV-card. You can convert it yourself to a .MPG format which can be displayed by GB-PVR. One piece of software which claims to do this is called 'DVD Ripper' developed by a guy called Luis Burgos.

Just as a warning. I had nothing but problems with the ripper. And support is lacking.

I've got the latest release and still can't play .wmv files through my MVP? When you try and play the file, it shows the file name and shows the file length as 1 second - Then crashes Sad

Equally as frustrating is the DVD Ripper software which is nothing less than plain shite! (pardon my french!!)

Can anyone offer any other solutions? I'm desperately trying to switch to GB-PVR rather than using the hauppage software: my main problem is that I really like to use Microsoft's "Photostory" software which puts all my pictures into a slideshow with music but this can only output as a .wmv file. I'm not so fussed about dvr-ms files but would love this to be supported!

Can anyone suggest a similar "photostory" type software that can output in a GB-PVR supported format?

Thanks for help

Do you have the Hauppauge MVP software installed? It uses a component from this for transcoding WMV files. Most of my focus for transcoding has been divx files, but I do have a couple of wmv files I've also tried. These were only small files, but seemed to work fine.

Can you email your Trans2MVP.exe-native.log file to me at support@devnz.com

YGM - I've emailed you the log file (there were 4 "Trans2MVP.exe-native" .txt files so I've sent you the 1st - if you need the others just let me know)

I have got the Hauppage software installed and at the moment this autoboots when I start my PC - All i'm doing to use the GBPVR software is stopping the hauppage server software via Start>All programmes>Hauppage MVP>Stop and starting the GBPVR server software instead - I presume this is correct - if I don't stop the hauppage server software the MVP doesn't find the GBPVR software.

Any help is much appreciated! Smile

Config -> Playback tab -> MVP Playback section -> number of servers to autstart needs to be set to the number of MVP units you have. Setting this will allow GBPVR to load the MVP. You will also need to go to services and set the MediaMVP services to disable so they don't conflict. I've got 2 MVP's and they're working great this way.

Spyder - I don't understand what you mean?! I'm not running 2 Mvp's - I've only got one!

Sub - Following my "aha.." moment in my email to you i've tried the version of the hauppage software that you said you were running and this didn't change anything..Still the file shows as 00:00:01 long and crashes.

I've got Windows media player 10 running on the machine - is this correct?

This is driving me mad now - Sad

Any other ideas? Just gotta get this sorted.....I'll keep fiddling about so if I sort it i'll let you know...

Again, thanks for all your help...I'm sure I can see my way to a small donation for your efforts...(feel free to spend some of it on a pint!)

Set the autostart to 1 if you only have 1 MVP. This will keep you from having to stop the Hauppauge software and starting the GBPVR software each time you reboot.
