On another system with an HVR1600 the exact same thing just happened to me. 2 files both 6kb each in size.
Oddly, if I use Vista Media Center, the first time I boot up and try to watch or record any ATSC channel, I get a message ' No tuner available to satisfy the current request' Not sure yet but I think it may have something to do with the order of my tuners but I'll have to play around with it later and see how it goes.

Paul (or anyone else):
Did you ever figure anything out with this issue?

Thanks,

No and the problem is now happening much more. I'm now getting the 2 6kb files instead of 1 6kb file and 1 complete file. I still don't know why but it's only the digital channels that this happens to. I'm wondering if it's not getting a lock on the signal and cuts off but I hope to have some time this weekend to test more.
I was also going to wait until early Dec. when sub gets back to ask him to take a look at it. Kevin, if there's something particular you want me to try as a comparison to your problems, just let me know.

Well, at this point, Sub may be the only one who can figure this out. I don't see anything obvious in the logs to indicate what's going on. While I already posted an attachment of my "native" recording log, but here's a snippet of the relevant section of the other recording log:

As you can see, at "19:00:02.609" I get a "Programme is now recording" immediately followed by "RecordingFactory.save()". A bit later, we see an entry about the recording being unusually small.

Oh well -- Sub, we humbly await your genius..... Smile

So the message 'giving second chance' could be the reason why we see 2, 6kb files? Makes me wonder even more if it could be a signal issue. However, on the other side, I removed the cable from 1 card and scheduled a recording and let it go for the full 30 minutes and got a full 30 minutes of 'snow'. It got a signal if you could call it that.
Do you have more than 1 tuner that is set to use ATSC? I ask because on both of my systems I do and at times, have more than 1 ATSC recording at the same time but even with no other recordings set on these systems I see the same problem.

No, only one ATSC tuner in my setup. I have a PVR-150 for analog (s-video from Dish Network tuner) and an HVR-950 for OTA/ATSC (outdoor HD antenna).

As for the "second chance", yes I would tend to agree that it's having some issue that makes the initial recording stop. But I sure would think there would be something in the "native" log (I attached a zip of mine earlier) to indicate something like a signal loss/cutout. HOWEVER, I'm also a .NET developer for a living, and there ARE times when I don't trap and/or log exceptions properly in my code, so maybe we're just losing an error along the way.

It looks at the file after about 25 seconds and if its too small then it decides the file isnt growing normally, and restarts it. This is usually caused by the device failing to lock onto a signal for some reason, and no data is delivered.

sub, if you have the time, please look at my logs. I can play the channel fine in live tv but the minute I ctrl-k or schedule a manual or advanced recording, I get the dual, 6kb files. I see an 'error not connected' message a few times and am not sure what is not connected.
Thanks

Hey Paul...
Are you still having this issue? I have been playing around with MediaPortal recently (not that I think it's any better, just experimenting -- FWIW, it records my digital ATSC streams without a hitch -- no signal lock issues) and saw that Sub now has a new release out. I'd definitely prefer to "come home" to GB-PVR, but was curious if this issue remains.

Thanks!
Kevin T.

I'm fairly sure the issue that caused this has been resolved in 1.3.11.
