I am having a small issue where skipping back in live ATSC (with timeshifting enabled) causes the video to freeze for 5-10 seconds while the audio plays. After the freeze the video seems to execute the skip then run at double speed until it catches up with the audio. I am using the HW below and the ATI Mux. I use FFDSHOW for the video CODEC. It also happens with the ATI MPEG CODEC.

Logs Attached.

In the logs I run the today show at 2009-01-23 07:00:21.358 and then skip forwards and backwards a number of times while experiencing the issue. A lot of the skips look like this in PVRX2.exe.log:

I use an MCE remote (the gyration) and the renderer is the system default which points to the Creative sound card.

try it with keyboard keystrokes only and see what happens...if it's ok, i suspect the gyration is low on batteries or there's noise or something...

Same issue. I can hear the skips happening through the audio as I use the keyboard or the Gyration. It is just the video that freezes then tries to catch up. It sounds like the logs look normal from your questions.

Let me try a series of different video decoders and Muxs. It still happened with FFDSHOW and the ATI MPEG Codec but I have others. I can also try the Cyberlink and TS mux to see if it is the same. Not going to have time for awhile, will post back.

Tried TS Mux/Cyberlink Mux/ATI Mux with Microsoft MPEG-2/MPEG/ATI MPEG/FFDSHOW/Intervideo Decoders. All combinations.

Cyberlink skipped without the video issue but it gave me Audio/video sync issues (no big surprise it has been widely reported with ATSC) ATI Mux with the Microsoft MPEG-2 decoder also seemed better but had the same sync issues.

I thought this might be reception related but the signal quality was 100 when I tried it.

I also tried updating AVIVO to 8-12 so I had a new ATI mux and ATI MPEG Codec, no luck.

I REALLY wanted this to be better with the TS mux, I like it. However I had the skipping issue as well as stuttering with it. I tried setting the preplay delay to 1000 but still had the stuttering. Moot point given it still had the skipping issue.

I really think there is a Mux/CODEC combination that might solve it given it is better with some than others, any recommendations?

This resolved my skipping issue!

Thanks Stustunz!

I am using Cyberlink PDVD 7.3/TS mux. I had to set the liveTV preplay delay to 2000MS to resolve the stuttering, but it is not noticable when TV starts. I was worried another second and a half would create a noticable pause when a program started.

Now I have an issue with crashing, I hope I can resolve it and use the combination.

I will put that in another thread.
