In tcmy95's example, because the settings are less than the default, mvpmc2 leaves the undefined surface with zero as the RGB values.

i'm pretty sure mine's in the 10-15% range...will pop up that new graph and let you know...
it could be laughable, i barely see a sliver of the main menu title on Blue skin..

i may have a go at looking for resizing controls hidden in back of my set as that is way too much overscan to be correct on other sources for me as well...

just never had anything hooked up where i could see how bad it was..
the *only* resizing in menus is a 'squash 1080i vertically' to simulate a smaller 16:9 tv...
[big black bars top and bottom]
so i will see if that mode is correct in aspect and overscan...

i have a feeling my overscan is so much i'll have to create my own skin template..
[i doubt anybody else will have this bad a problem]

tho my other lcd is dead on without overscan...and there i prefer edge to edge w/no overscan at all Big Grin [would rather use all that space]

well, surprisingly i have only about 7-8% overscan w/latest background...
can see a touch of the white line at bottom, and on all other sides it's about 1% offscreen..

Does this mean mine is incorrect?

Is there a better way of doing this?

Cheers

Not at all, this is how I do it too, but I have never known if this is the correct way to update the dimensions or not.

For some of the skin designers who follow this thread I thought I'd post a screen shot from the Swiss Center forums showing the usual problem of the top left portion of the screen being a little too close to the overscan area. this user wasn't commenting on the screen, but it is something I notice regularly at 1280x720

I read this message last night & it has been sort of niggling at the back of my brain ever since. (I can't remember what this thread was all about & I haven't re-read it today) surly there is some way to get the display to have less overscan on the PCH? I just looked up sub's entry for the ScreenName in blue

<DrawText text="@screenName" loc="5,5" size="100,100" textStyle="ScreenNameStyle" align="Left"/>

it is displaying 5% in from the left side & 5% down from the top & still getting the "R" chopped off! That seems to be a lot of overscan to me?

10% is actually the recommended "safe" area for titles, 5% is for "action" I don't believe this has nothing to to with the PCH, since it is monitor related.

I was wondering if members here have perhaps had the chance to try out the new CS-SD and CS-HD beta, and if so how do they find the layout in relation to screen overscan.

I was able to, pretty much, stick to the overscan allowance suggested here when laying out the HD version. So as it stands now:

CS-HD has 12% horizontal and 10% vertical
CS-SD has 6% horizontal and 10% vertical

It'd be really helpful to know what folks are seeing on NMT and MVP devices.

I installed CD-SD last week and the settings were great at 1280x720 on my monitor, it must be a little more conservative than Blue. I will try CS-HD and give you some more feedback. Since its not a video game I don't think you need to be aggressive on going to the edges so I expect it will be fine.
