Paul, can you give this patch a go?

You'll also need to add this line to your config.xml:
<BDAUseGenericNPForATSC>true</BDAUseGenericNPForATSC>

With these in place, if the scan still fails, zip and attach the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

BINGO! It worked! The scan was much, much slower than normal, well, slower than normal for the 2250. About the same amount of time as the HDHR.
I've gotten all the channels to map that I get with the HDHR and used the Center frequencies of the QAM manager.
sub, thanks for not giving up and if there's anyone else out there who helped, thanks as well.
Let me know if you need to see any logs for any reason. I actually did this first in W7 so I'm sure it'll work in Vista but I'll get to that soon.

No worries. I'm just glad we finally got it nailed. Also send a bit of thanks Whurlston's way. He gave me remote access to a machine that I could reproduce the problem on.

Props Will. Smile
Will this also help those having problems with the HVr1600?
And, the BDA Migration tool worked great too.

Glad to help. I took one look at the graph that got built in Win7 and knew sub would be spinning his wheels for a while trying to troubleshoot it by proxy.

This 'tweak' also allowed my ATI650 and HVR1600 to pick up QAM but so far, I'm not able to view any channels......still playing with it to see if it's me that missed something or something else. Never got this far before and I don't know if the 'fix' is suppose to work on other cards as well though I see no reason why it shouldn't.

Do you mean in the main app, or in the preview window?

Main app. I ran into the same issue. I changed the User Access Control settings to the minimum, rebooted and it started working. Going to try again running PVRx2 as Admin.

Never mind. The User Access Control turned out to be a red herring. I think it has something to do with channels being incorrectly identified as encrypted? Here's why I think that (I can reproduce the following behaviour every single time):

Say I have 8 channels (we'll call them CH1 to CH8 for simplicity).

<BDAStartOnUnencryptedChannel> set to true
  • Start PVRx2 and go to the guide.
  • Select CH5 to watch
  • Black screen
  • Channel up to CH6
  • CH2 comes on.
  • Channel down and CH1 comes on (no black screen).
  • Check logs and sure enough, PVRx2 attempted to tune to CH1 instead of CH5 as I requested.
<BDAStartOnUnencryptedChannel> set to false
  • Start PVRx2 and go to the guide.
  • Select CH5 to watch
  • Black screen
  • Channel up to CH6
  • CH6 comes on as expected.
  • Channel down and CH5 comes on as expected (no black screen).
Now the kicker (we're using BDAStart... set to true here):
  • Start PVRx2 and go to the guide.
  • Select CH5 to watch
  • Black screen
  • Channel up to CH6
  • CH6 comes on
  • Exit live TV and select CH6 to watch from Guide
  • CH6 comes on as expected
  • Exit live TV and select CH5 to watch from Guide
  • Black screen
  • Channel up to CH6
  • CH6 comes on as expected.
  • Channel down and CH5 comes on as expected (no black screen).
  • Exit live TV and select CH5 to watch from Guide
  • CH5 comes on as expected (no black screen).
Once I channel up/down to any channel, I can select that channel from the guide for the remainder of that PVRx2 session and it starts playing (no black screen). If I don't view a channel via channel up/down in the current PVRx2 session, it will black screen every time when selecting it from the guide.

Machine is still up and running if you need to do any debugging on it. I know you probably can't see the video but if you attach to the running graph and view the properties on the renderer, there are no frames being decoded on the black screens. Notepad++ is running with config.xml open if you want to test that setting as well.

For me, the main app.The system with the 2250 is working great. I set recordings all night and they all recorded.
Haven't had any chance to work with the 1600 and 650 yet but will try tonite for a bit. The channels do show in the preview when mapping.
