after a few months on scrimping and saving imanaged to get my dvb-s setup all working - reimaged my htpc and then started testing - i seem to have a small issue with a new 46 button hauppaugre remote - its the black one with a house \ go button in the middle - anyway im getting some random button presses which is a bit of a concern

a couple of examples..

- if i press the down arrow heaps of times it randomly presses ok i think and opens what ever menu was currently on
- pressing up sometimes presses the left arrow
- and pressing back doesnt seem to do anything in dvd's or videos while they are playing - i have to press the stop button to get back to the menus.

now im also finding that pressing any buttons on my samsung lcd remote is causing issues with videos pausing and stuff...does anyone know if a way to reset the codes used by Hauppauge or Samsung Tvs so they dont conflict ?

I had this problem with the remote supplied with my Hauppauge Nova-T USB. They sent me a replacement but that behaved exactly the same. I decided that it must be a problem with the IR sensor in the tuner.

I eventually replaced the USB tuner with a Nova-T 500 PCI card and have not experienced any problems since whilst still using the same remote control(s).

Yeh, I think that is just how it works.

hmmm ive got 2 dvb-s pci cards - havent tried plugging the sensor into the second card so might try that and see if the issue disappears.

* edit 1 - hmm odd - now i get no remote control at all after a reboot - is there a way you can tell the IR software which card is doing what ?

* edit 2 - just swapped the cards around and it seems to have resolved that issue - now - how the heck do i stop my samsung remote from mucking around with my htpc ?

also with the dvd thing - from a DVD folder the back button does nothing but im pretty sure on an actual DVD the back button takes you back to the menu -

one more thing for sub - when playing on of the DVD Folders and you press stop it backs you right out of the dvd and the video library menu - where as with all other videos pressing stop just takes you back to the menu where the folder was at - just something to consider for the next build if you dont have it sorted already.

cheers

Hey Skippy,

Did you fix the samsung remote problem??? I have this and it is real pain in the butt....we have to use the buttons on the TV when the htpc is on or anything could happen.

sorry for the late reply - no i havent fixed this yet - ive tried 2 new nova-s cards to no avail - one other i did was we checked what codes are being sent from the tv remote and the hauppauge remote - both use totally different codes so in theory there is no reason for the samsung remote to control gbpvr

i did a debug test with a notepad and its the same deal - pressing the buttons on the samsung remote randomly control that so im going to go back to hauppauge today to try to sort this out cause its a real pain in the butt when you want to do anything remotely different on the tv.

i just did some testing with another stb remote and the signal from that remote was being picked up by the hauppauge cards as well - ive tried disabling 1 of cards ir port in device manager and then moving the cable to the second - same deal - i think its possibly this model of hauppauge card that has a dodgy input signal or something - im almost tempted to get my money back and try to find some different dvb-s cards.

I've got a Nova-T-500 card with the remote as well and I get random presses from time to time - IE you hit skip and instead it exits out of playback or brings up the guide - Also often when I use our heat pump (air conditioner) remote it will exit playback as well. My other silver hauppage MCE remote never had these problems but I use that on the bedroom pc now and can't swap them as the reciever for the Nova-T Card plugs into the card not a usb port. I like the Nova-T remote as I like the WinTV Remote software as its very easy to setup where-as the MCE remote needed HIP or similar to be able to launch GBPVR with the remote.

I've got 3 nova-t-500 cards at present and only one of them works!!!! All three were purchased from the same NZ Distro, the first one is the retail box with remote and was perfect - the other two were Whitebox versions, one gives signal but the recordings are garbage (scrambled picture but with audio) and the other won't lock onto a signal at all!!!

I was really happy with my PVR500's I had - they've been absolutely perfect devices and the MCE Remote was well made with a good powerful signal but these Nova-T's don't seem to be well made and the remote is a piece of crap - Asside from the problems mentioned above you have to point the remote directly at the sensor nice and straight for it to work!

Oh well....... I'll get another remote at some point!

ive been dealing with a supplier and hes been in contact with hauppauge directly - so im slightly hopeful they can supply me with some test drivers or something that may fix the problem - but i really dont know. ive told them that its not just me with the issue and they need to sort it out - else its pointless even supplying the cards with remotes. so fingers crossed Big Grin

for anyone that has this same issue with the Nova-S / Nova-T cards - i have had confirmation that Hauppauge techs are looking at the problem (i pointed them to the Hauppauge UK forums and mentioned about other people here having the same issue) ive not had an update in a couple of weeks but im hopeful to have something sorted out soon.
