Trying to capture video from camera.

I have film on camera which was bought in the US (probably broadcast NTSC then). I connected it via composite to my pvr 150 card (which was bought in Europe and I know is PAL). I set manual record and sent the film from camera instead of the usaul content that comes from the STB. The record is all scrambled, is it because of the NTSC and PAL differences? Is there any way around it?

What do you mean by scrambled? I thought that NTSC v PAL would just give you a black & white picture?

EDIT: start up the WinTV application and see if the video is working in that app for composite.

The picture is black and white, but is also shaking and covered with grey bars. Using wintv I got only red screen. BTW, connecting the camera directly to my tv provides great picture.

How old is the camera?
Are there any settings on it choose pal / ntsc out?

Only other way to do it, would be to connect (if you've got one) the monitor out from your TV into the PVR.
Means you will have to watch whatever is on the camera at the same time, but will get you a decent capture.

I can't change from pal to ntsc from in the camera.
my monitor doesn't have a tv out, so I tried to do it with my yamhaa receiver, but still the same resaults. I'll go and try to do that with a friend's dvd recorder, hope it's multisystem and can receive both pal and ntsc.
I still don't get it, i though pal and ntsc are only tuner related, if I connect the camera with composite I would still see differences between pal and ntsc?

You can always pick up a cheap WinTV or all-in-wonder NTSC tuner card off e-bay to transfer the video.

The PAL and NTSC systems are quite different, not to mention different frames per second.
As nitro says get an NTSC capture card (or I think most cards will do both) and capture NTSC from the camera then perform a conversion using something like virtualDub to give you pal fps.
Your TV plays it ok as most TVs now are multi-standard. It just seems that your pvr card is only capable of capturing pal on the a/v input. Even though I am supprised about that as I have a cheap tv card and it captures either n its a/v input.

if u need or relay want the video. u could rent a scan converter like a sony 1024hd they make cheeper ones too, you can find on ebay . the sony is kinda expensive but it can pretty much match any input to any out....
