i have looked for a DVR soft ware that will help me with this. i would like to try gbpvr. but what i need to do is record an all day event and be able to rewind and replay portions on a wim. the record must never stop. i thank i could do this with the Manuel record, how ever the file handling is something else. i would like my recording coped up in 1/2 hr or 1 hr files. i thought if i could make a guide for the svid in i could program 12hs of a fake 1/2 program. i would figure that the files would be named the name of my "fake show" all will be good.
can this be done? if not is there a better way or software

yes you could do your second option if you do want the files split.

But that would make your rewind and replay bit not work properly.....

Maybe make 6 hr sections or something to allow good rewinding. If you can get your hands on an xmltv file then you can edit it as you need to.

how would you go about making the dummy xmltv file
you need the show name to be something like video input
then a xml file generated in 3hour(or what ever you want it to be) 24/7
then just select record all shows with this name and set it to keep how ever many you want kept
i thought about this for a security camera but never got around to investigating the xml file part
so if anyone knows how to make the xml files be created automatically id be interested as well

Its probably pretty simple. Although I have played with some programs that play with the xmltv files.

So there's two real parts in xmltv. The channel definitions. And the programmes is the second part.

So:
Code:
<tv>
  <channel id="channelid">
    <display-name>channel name</display-name>
  </channel>
   <programme start="yyyyMMddhhmmss" stop="yyyyMMddhhmmss" channel="channelid">
    <!-- comment - not needed -->
    <title>Program title</title>
    <desc>desc</desc>
  </programme>
<programme start="yyyyMMddhhmmss" stop="yyyyMMddhhmmss" channel="channelid">
    <!-- comment - not needed -->
    <title>Program title</title>
    <desc>desc</desc>
  </programme>
</tv>

So you'd just create the different programs one after the other. You'd only need the one channel id, and this would be what you load into the EPG. That one channel would be assigned to a Svideo capture source.

Give me a bell if you need a hand with it.
