I went into config/plugins and enabled the plugin, didn't change any settings, updated the line in config.xml as instructed.

I'm assuming that both files needed to go in Plugins\Videos Library.

Does the plugin work if you use the blue skin? It may not be falling back correctly when it can't find a copy of VideosLibrary/skin.xml for CS3. You could try copying that file there manually.

Yes it does work with the blue skin, but I don't quite understand - where would I find the skin.xml in question and where exactly should I put it?

Each skin (blue/slick/cs3/etc) has its own directory under gbpvr/skin2. Blue works because the plugin is able to find gbpvr/skin2/blue/VideosLibrary/skin.xml. CS3 should have a similar file - you can copy it from the blue path. Some of the newer skin releases already come bundled with this file.

I have a new idea for a feature that would be very useful for me. The problem is that very few others will find it useful...

The problem I wish to have solved is that I mainly use the plugin for tv-series.
And as I don't have english as my native language, I usually download subtitle files.
The problem is to know which episodes that have any .srt (or for that matter have have a renamed srt that fits the name).

My idea is to show a little star (*) or something to the left of the filename for the files that has a matching .srt file. This way it won't disturb other user that don't need this feature. The matching is done this way: MyMovie.avi is matched with MyMovie.srt and MyMovie.language.srt. There are other subtitle formats as well, but I think that about 99% is srt.

Is this something that could fit the scope of Videos Library?

That should be really easy to do but it might take me some time to get to it.
