Due to problems running Ati-550 Pro card on my new ASUS Crosshair motherboard I have to use a PVR-150 to grab video from a STB. The video looks fine when it is connected to the S-video input, but there is no connection for sound on the PVR-150. Is it possible to tell gbpvr to record the sound from the soundcard's line-in while recording video from the PVR-150? Or does anybody have another good idea?

The PVR150 does have a sound connection, you just need a small converter plug.

You cant get the sound from another device.

Ah, so one (or two) of the four pins in the s-video socket is for sound? Anyone know where I can find a pinout description, then I can probably solder togather something myself...

Wikipedia is your friend

Edit: I should have read it before I posted the link. It doesn't mention audio.

I believe there is a 1/8 mini plug that is line-in audio.

Here's the connections on the PVR-150
and here's a pic of the mini-pin to rca jack, that you need.

As mentioned above look for the "line in" on the back of the PVR150 card.

Thanks all of you, my card has only one 4-pin connector and two antenna inputs, but there was a tiny unmarked minijack hole which I had not seen (it's quite dark at the back of my htpc) and it is actually an audio-in connector, so now I'm happy again Wink.

This answers a question I have had for a long time.

My in-house support said I need a splitter, but if I understand correctly, I should be able to connect the pvr150 directly to the cable inwith composite and the hvr to the cable box with one s-video cable and a separate audio cable (1 plug each end). Currently both pvr150 &hvr1600 are connected directly to cable, but based on this information, I think I should be able to connect the digital tuner directly to cable in (to receive whatever qam is available) and connect the analog portion of the hvr1600 to the cable box to allow recording of the premium stations available only through the set box. My only remaining question is how will the hvr1600 know which input goes to which tuner (only one set of input/outputs for the 2 tuners). Am I being too greedy?

p.s. for those like me who saw the reference to a tiny hole and then looked at the pvr 350 picture, I think the audio for the s-video is the line-in and not the tiny hole below the ir remote that is only available on the 350

You'r assuming correct about the tiny-hole connectors in the picture(s), but my card does not have an ir-connection.

Am I correct when I belive you want to connect the antenna-out from the STB to the capture card's antenna-in, and video/audio from the same STB to video/audio-in on the same capture card? In that case, you have to set up two capture sources in gbpvr, both pointing to the same card (with the same device number), but on one you must select "composite, external tuner" in the plugin's setup. to automate channel switching on the STB you need a channel changer, like USBUIRT or similar.
