I have the 45 button (I think) remote that comes w/ the non-Media Center edition HVR-1600. For the most part, it works great. One thing that is kinda buggin me though is that the system seems to ignore key presses from the remote occasionally, and/or it responds very slowly. It's the kind of delay that makes you try again but push the button harder - even though that really doesn't do anything. Smile

The keyboard works great, and I can scroll around the menus at light speed. But I can't scroll through anything quickly or make reliable key presses with the remote 99% of the time.

During the brief period of time that I had media portal installed, I experienced the exact opposite problem with that software: the remote was so sensitive that it was hard to scroll up or down just one line (in media portal). This leads me to believe that it is a software issue causing my remote to work poorly in GBPVR

Anyone know how to adjust the responsiveness of my Haupauge remote?

I have the same remote. Try loading a blank file named debug.txt into Notepad. Give Notepad focus, then press some buttons on the remote. You should see the button names in the open text file appearing in Notepad. This will show you responsiveness and speed.

If that tests shows your remote is OK (batteries are good and the sensor is receiving all key presses) then I'm not sure what to say. Initially, I suspected the problem might be in your gbpvr.db3 file, but you said the keyboard is fast. I might still try temporarily replacing the db3 briefly with an empty file to be sure that delays are from the remote.

What skin are you using? Our 2 MVP's work pretty well with the blue skin. I tried the MVP version of the Community Skin 4, but it really messed with the response of the remote. The WAF plummeted, so I switched the MVP's back to the blue skin.

For the record, I'm on Blue Skin - and as noted above, my remote responsiveness is good.

thanks for the replies.

I will try the notepad thing, and if that works well I'll try a different skin. I'm currently running community skin. I hope I don't have to change skins...

I still use CS4 on my server, but it was just too much for the MVP to deal with gracefully. Sad

ok, I tried the notepad thing and it didn't work. Does that mean I have a setting somewhere that I need to change?

By default the irremote.ini file has a section for debug.txt. Did you name the notepad file 'Debug.txt' before trying the remote?

Edit: Or did you just mean it was still sluggish?

Nothing showed up in my debug.txt file when I hit remote buttons. Does the debug.txt file need to be in a certain directory?

No, debug.txt can be anywhere, it just needs to be open in notepad (other editors won't work) and it needs to be in focus (click it with the mouse and type into the file just before you press the remote buttons).

The only point of this is to test that your remote is sending and there is nothing interfering with the remote software delaying it from passing commands to the window in focus. I was unaware that remote delays had been seen from other GBPVR skins. Now that I know that, I'd be looking at trying blue skin vs. your current one. The notepad test might tell you something, but I'm more doubtful now than when I suggested it.

Good luck.
