I ordered a hvr-2250 tuner card the other day and should be getting it in a few days. I am looking for tips on the installation to make it go smoothly. I have a Vista system. Please make comments and suggestions on the following steps.
1. Physically install the tuner card.
2. Download the latest drivers from the hauppauge web site.
3. Start up computer, install drivers. Don't install any other software that comes with the card. Don't install TV Pack.
4. Start up gbpvr config. Add a analog & digital recording plugin in the recording source.
5. Map digital channels to epg channels. Never did this before so not sure how difficult is is.
From scanning this thread it looks like it will take some work getting it to be fully functional. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Blue Racer,

Let us know when you've received the card. There are plenty of us who can share their experience. It sounds like you've got a handle on the procedure.

Mapping isn't difficult, just tedious. If you have cable with a lot of unencrypted QAM channels like I do, allow more than an hour, maybe two, the first time you do it.

In North America I would recommend

1. Check http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels to see what to expect. Those virtual channels will be your friend too.

2. Subscribe to Schedules Direct. Mapping is not a good time to try and save a few cents a day by learning "free" options. Wait until you have your device for the Schedules Direct free trial.

3. Don't rush or be ambitious. Only select two or three channels on Schedule Direct that you saw on the silicon dust site

4. Download your Digital EPG

5. Scan your channels in GPBVR, confirm the scan values with the virtual channels on Silcon Dust. Then map from the channel name to the virtual channel that you want, you probably don't even need to look at the video.

Just installed my HVR-2250 tuner card. I was wondering within Schedules Direct I use to have my lineup as "Comcast Southeast Cable". Now I see there is a "Comcast Southeast- Digital" lineup available also. Would I enable both of them or just the digital.

I am not getting audio when I use GBPVR to watch tv directly on my computer.
I really haven't changed any of the codec or multiplexer options. Should any of these be changed with the addition of the Hauppauge hvr-2250 tuner card?

Blue Racer,

I also have Comcast, and a 2250, but I won't be at my machine until tonight.

When you say "addition" do you mean that you now have more than one TV card installed? If so, can you temporarily disable the 2250 (both tuners) and see what happens? Or is the audio missing only on the unencrypted QAM channels?

Lately, most of my little problems have been solved by a simple reboot...

No, I only have the 2250 installed. It was a brand new pc that had no tuner card. I subsequently installed the 2250. I for the most part use the pch to view live tv and recordings on my tv. And that is working out ok. But I was checking out the tuner card on my pc using PVRX2. I think its mainly the digital channels that lack sound.

You probably need to install an AC3 audio decoder like AC3Filter.
