Dual tuners

Looking to be able to record a tv show and watch another. If I get a dual tuner (probably hvr 2250) would I still need 2 stbs?

What type of provider are you using?

I have cable right now but will be switching to Direct TV soon.

You would need to STBs. Cable transmits digital QAM that doesn't need a decoder, and digital tuners can pick that up. But Satelite needs STBs to decode the signal.
