Getting no picture. Had a quick go with Windows Media Player 9 and I get a picture, but if did have to download a codec.

Anything I can provide to figure out what the stream is and if I have a decoder to play it?

Try downloading GraphEdit, and select the 'render media file' menu option to see what happens.

Actually reading around it doesn't look very possible... Might be a play with WMP, or play with VLC type thing.

If you can find decoders to get it working in GraphEdit, then should also work in GB-PVR. If not, then you're probably stuck with WMP or VLC.

actually going to try re-encoding it. Give my VMserver a workout!! I have a Windows 7 VM on there with handbrake installed. I'll see what that will do with it.

I can play WMV HD fine in the GBPVR video library- I think I had to upgrade to WMP11 to get them working.
Gspot reports 'codec status undetermined' but still plays the files fine...

hmm ok insteresting, I only have wmp9 on mine. Since I don't particulary like wmp (as it screws all your album art for music), so I try to stay away from it.

notice above that? it's vc1 simple profile...it's using the wmv9 DMO filter...so just means you don't have a suitable vc1 codec for directshow, which is all gbpvr will use i think...
i know you can use ffdshow to provide access to that DMO codec by setting WMV9 for WMV3 codec..
but it should play if you just install the windows media foundation classes..search for 'wmfdist11'
and you should be able to keep WMP9..
