NO sound from dvd

I am new to gbpvr and cannot get sound while playing a dvd. Video is fine. My computer is a Sony Vaio PCV RS-420. Running XP Pro fully updated. Sound card works with Windows Media Player. Your thoughts?...

Do you get sound if you play the same DVD using Windows Media Player?
