Hello all.

I live in Wanganui NZ and have recently moved house. Unfortunately, I have moved into an area with next to no VHF reception but good UHF. (My sister lives near by and gets very good Prime.)

So I thought I'd buy a NOVA T 500 and take advantage of the HD capability and have up till now done the following....

1. Purchased a new Nova T 500.
2. Purchased a new 91 Element UHF Aerial.
3. Purchased 6 meters of new 75ohm RG6 cable.
4. Connected everything up as you would expect. (Aerial to Cable, Cable to Nova T 500)
5. Mounted the Aerial on the roof and pointed it in approximately the same direction as most of the neighbours.
6. Installed the drivers from the CD supplied. ( Via device manaber )
7. Added the card to the GBPVR.
8. I had a lot of problems finding channels so in my problem diag, found and downloaded ScanChannelsBDA_UK.exe
9. It didn't really seem to matter what I did, it did not find any channels, until out of desperation, I ran the CD and clicked the install drivers which seemed to enable channels to be found. Humm?

I now can find all the channels you would expect. (tv1,tv2,tv3,tvnz6,tvnz7 etc)

But I'm left with a couple of problems and a question.

Problem 1.
When I record TV3, (the resolution is huge) I get very bad jitter. Whole frames seems to be missed.

Which leads me to my question: When using ScanChannelsBDA_UK.exe, I get a quality of %100 but a strength of -13000. What the hell is strength? What should strength be at?

Problem 2.
How do I play back my TS files on my MVP?

Details:
My GBPVR version is 1.3.11
No Plugins installed

Thanks in advance,
Dave

ok, you have lots happening here.

problem 1

I take it you know the difference between standard definition and high definition? TV3 is HD, so 1920x1080i lines. You need a pretty grunty video card to be able to play it without stutter. Something like an nvidia 8500GT and above or 9400GT and above - you also need a video decoder that is able to hardware accelerate, otherwise you CPU is doing all the work.

problem 2
TS files to the mvp - not possible. MVP cannot take hd, and even if it could be converted on the fly you would need a pretty large CPU to keep up with it.

problem 1
Currently, due to problem 2. I record a program (Recording PC CPU is very low) then copy it off and play it on my PC via VLC. On play back on my PC, the CPU is quite high. But, I believe the stutter is in the recording due to the fact that it stutters in exactly the same place on very play. I can rewind and see the same stutter. I guess due to the signal coming in being digital and then copied directly to the HDD, it's imposible to decrease the resolution to try and combat the stutter.

problem 2
Is there a way to convert a TS file to MPEG off-line?

BTW: Thanks for the speedy response.

Problem 1.
I've sort of found a solution. TV3plus1 is broadcasted in a lower res which records fine.

I wonder if my harddrive is not keeping up. I doubt it though cause it's the same harddrive that I used to record 4 streams to at the same time using my two PVR500's...

Hey Psycik, does your Popcorn hour play TS files OK? Perhaps it's time I upgrade my MVP.

Unfortunately no. It doesnt understand the HE-AAC audio used on most channels. It can play TV3 though, since it contains an AC3 audio stream aswell as HE-AAC.

How do the users that record in TS files view their recording then? Do they all have their PC's connected to their TV's?

Generally, in NZ with DVB-T, yes they need to have their PC connected to the TV. The PCH is no good for the HE-AAC audio on Freeview HD.

Hi again,
I have finally got a chance to have another look at this issue.
Up until now, I have been downloading most of the programs I normally record.

I've just spent hours looking through the forum and reading the survival guide and have not found anything that helps me.

Just to recap: TV3 and C4 have very jerky sound. Sometimes also video.

Initially, I was recording TV3 which creates a huge file due to the full HD. When I played it back, both the sound and the video are extremely jerky. I thought I had fixed it by now recording TV3plus1. Now only the sound is jerky but still quite unwatchable.

I thought it might be a disk speed issue so ran a test where I recorded: TVNZ6,TVNZ7, TV1,TV2 and Prime all at the same time. All channels recorded without missing a beat. But the issue I have with TV3, happens even if TV3 is the only channel being recorded.....

What could be causing this issue?

What is your video card? You need about a 8500GT or 9400GT and above card. Lots of people were having issues with the ATI range but that might have finally caught up and play properly.

With your audio what version of monograam are you on?
