I have installed a KWORLD USB435-q tuner stick. I finally got it working thanks to all the help in the forum. THANK YOU.

Now it is working fine but it is recording the TV in Microsoft TV show format which plays OK on computer but not through MVP to my TV.

I read about the BDA Mux's and am contemplating that solution. Although I haven't found a "real clear" solution to where to get one and how to exactly install it. Also using the Mux, will that let me watch TV shows as it is recording or will it convert as a finished file.

Secondly and easier solution: is there a way to get the Kworld stick to record the show in MPEG 2 instead of MTVS format. They seem to have a way to change output of Video format in ARCsoft total media SW but that does not seem to work for the TV signal only alternate Video (eg Camera) signals.

Any help appreciated.

So are you more after watching the tuner stick on the MVP in a "live" transcoded fashion, or recorded to watch later ?

Im not sure if there are utils to convert MTVS format to mpeg files for the MVP. I dL shows in various formats and then use a util to convert them over to mpegs. Mpegs are the only format that the MVP will play w/o transcoding and all its issues.

The way I figure it.. if you need to basically "reserve" your pc for live transcoding , then you might as well dedicate the pc to the a/v system (ie, htpc) using video out. I do my transcoding to the video library at night.. only drawback is no "live" tv.

Just passing by with my 0.02

Does it work if you select the "TS" mux in the Misc tab in Config app?

Thanks,

I tried the TS mux and it changed the file type to WMP. I need to get MPEG2 for the MVP

That's strange... I use the TS mux and it always produces .ts files.

I think the cyberlink mux version 1307 works ok. Find it here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...light=1307
ISTR something like :- extract the file, copy it to windows\system then run
regsvr32 'path and filename' and this registers the mux. Select this mux in config misc2 tab.You can check by running muxchecker from the gbpvr startmenu to see if it loaded and registered correctly.

DVRMSToolbox will convert DVR-MS to mpeg for free. Not sure if I used to have a problem with it going out of sync back when I tried various programs, but I didn't this week when trying it on some ATSC HD 1080i mpeg2 recorded as DVR-MS.

Can also try VideoRedo, which isn't free but is very good.

With ATSC, recording straight to mpg would go out of sync. Tried different Cyberlink muxes to no avail. And then ATI Mux would sometimes work and sometimes destroy the entire audio track.

The power adapter for it broke now, so I can't check, but I thought my MVP played ts or dvr-ms fine.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

You can't play mux'ed digital North American broadcasts directly on the MVP since they contain AC3 even on SD. You can only achieve playback on these files by setting the option to transcode all files.

I'm experiencing the same thing, recording from ATSC with Cyberlink and the audio and video get out of sync.

I was not able to get the MVP to play back the dvr-ms files, which is a shame because I did not have the AV sync issues with those files on my PVR. I'm continuing to work on the issue.

Martin, I must respectfully disagree. At least for my broadcast area (Atlanta, GA, USA), if I record to mpg2 from our OTA ATSC signals using the Cyberlink mux, I can play back those files on the MVP, albeit with horrible AV sync issues (worse even than on the main PVR).

I'm gearing up to try the transcoding, recording first in dvr-ms and then letting gbpvr transcode it to mpg2 (at least until I can afford a popcorn device).

When you say set the option to transcode all files, I don't know if you mean on-the-fly as they play on the MVP, or if you mean have GBPVR transcode everything overnight after it's done recording things.

I MacGyvered a power adapter from a cell phone Big Grin for my MVP and played with it this weekend. My ATSC recorded as dvr-ms didn't play. I only had one ATSC .mpg on hand. It was the last episode of the Terminator TV show that I converted to mpg from dvr-ms. I have that and the original dvr-ms of the show. 720p, 5.1 AC3, mpg. Played it fine.

It played other things with AC3. Including 720p and 1080, 5.1 AC3, .mkv movies.

What's odd is some files it likes, and some it doesn't. Sometimes it might quit after 20 seconds on a "difficult" (usually large-size 1080) file, but if you restart the file it will then play the entire thing fine.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:
