That's where I found it last night myself. It worked wonders.

hmmm... I wonder if this would fix some of the video problems I am having..

Playback is ok most of the time but I too have issues in high action sequences. Haven't really cared because I haven't watched anything other than South Park and Everybody Loves Raymond lately. Time to do some testing...

Definitely a sticky candidate, BTW.

I came across this thread and I started doing some research and noticed that there is a hotfix from Microsoft dated to December 8th, 2004 for the quartz.dll. I don't know enough about what the hotfix is talking about to know if this would fix the problem without having to go back to the DirectX9b version of quartz.dll. Here's the link:

I decided to try it out. It looks like the video and maybe the osd rendering is a little sharper, but it's hard to tell from a look, restart, look.

I will probably leave and see how it performs. It would be worth it if it had no negative impact, and lowered the amount of processing required.

The hotfix doesn't mention stuttering playback or poor performance, just problems with some anamorphic content not scaling, which is related to HD content and on some DVDs, it says. If the hotfix fixes the problem, it doesn't look like it would be intentional, but perhaps someone will try it.

I'm afraid to touch my system now that I got it working. Big Grin

Ooh, that is a nifty little piece of information. The description of the hotfix certainly doesn't describe the problems I was having, but that could be it, ya never know.

I played a bit more, and I think I (and it seemed to be more of an ATI than an nVidia issue) am having better results from 9c.

What could be my imagination was that the colors looked brighter and whites more washed out. Also that it seems to lose sync (didn't watch long enough to see progress).

What wasn't is that things like using catch-up to drop buffer could hang the video. W/ 9c, I can press like I'm making Mario jump and GB will just do it every time instantly.

9b seemed to use 10% less processing power, but it's usually 50% at most anyway (for GB, and anything else background/related).

This wasn't a good stress test, but I was trying out of curiosity and not need. I think it's harmless to try it (if you're comfortable playing w/ these things), but it will most help those that have a problem.
