But there again, your O/P said Quote: It happens on 1.4.7 and 1.3.11.So we might as well just have one variable in the first instance. p.s. I'm fairly sure I have had this in the past when recording somethig starting at 1900, the start time of the show I wanted. I must remember to set up the channel before it as well (not there at present). pps. I've just seen that there is a two minute news slot before 1900. This is on BBC3 so would the 2 minute prepadding pick this up OK? as the channel starts at 1858

OK what I found.
cyberlink mpg miux. 0 byte file created when starting. leave it until after 1900 when transmission starts - still 0 byte file. into recordings and cancel recording - nothing seems to happen - but notice that a -1 file is now created and growing. This file is playable, .ts mux starts recording and file starts growing. However file is not playable (time line starts at a large -ve number). leave until after 1900 and file still growing and still unplayable, Stop recording and still unplayable. VLC won't play it either. quickstart recording - fine and playable. I'm going to have to go out now for an hour or so, so no rapid responses to any questions.

text output from "mediainfo" on the two recordings. The -1 one was the second recording that went normally. The other was the one that started before the broadcaster started transmission - doesn't play with pvrx2 or VLC and mediainfo shows very little.
When Cypheros updates his tsdoctor (it has time expired now) I'll run it through that to see if the recording is repairable. p.s. VideoRedo won't open it and says transport stream does not contain an mpeg2 program.

Any chance I can download the recording? or at least the part of it (100MB or so)?

I thought you might ask and started uploading it.
http://rapidshare.com/files/275690208/te...g.zip.html It is a zip file and compressed quite well, so I'm guessing there may be not very much real data in it. Started 3 minutes before the broadcast was due to start and a minute or so after.

And I got...
Cyberlink mux on 1.3.11 - same as before 78MB recording created with the name Top Gear... which shows the end of CBBC and is watchable (I have CBBC tuned for when the grandkids are here - honest) - Status still shows recording Top Gear and Recordingservice maxed out - will not record anything else till I restart it. TS mux on 1.4.7 - basically the same as martin123 - 1.5GB file created which wont play and timeline shows 0:00 length with lerge -ve time as starting point - however, recording service still working correctly (currently recording Merlin) - I haven't tried to play with anything else yet. MPEG Streamclip (which reads .ts files) can't open it - gives a 'can't find video or audio tracks' error.

I'm pretty sure we'll get this resolved, but there is a good chance it'll only be resolved for TS Mux recordings. I have very little control over the behaviour with the DVR-MS and Cyberlink muxes.
Unfortunately I'm going to need some more logs though. Tomorrow can someone create a c:\temp directory, add an HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Devnz\LogTSWriter=1 (DWORD) registry setting, then record an off air channel a couple of minutes before broadcasts start to a couple of minutes after they start, then zip and attach the c:\temp\record-*.txt file?
