Yeah, it's not meant to be a 'tweak', it's a fix.
I was definitely having issues - the movie was unwatchable. The same was happening to others. Like i said, this is platform specific for some reason and some experience it, others don't.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. (If only I could actually live by those words more often, I love to tinker and it gets me in so much trouble!)

Well, I tried the hotfix but it didn't seem to fix the stuttering problem I get when I change channels too quickly (only switching the Deinterlacing option to 'Deinterlace Filter' seems to do that). Of course, your mileage may vary.

Not only that, but now I can't manually copy over the Quartz.dll file in the system32 directory (says File is in use) with an older copy.

I might be able to get rid of it by either uninstalling the hotfix or rolling back via System Restore, but I'm taping the Apprentice right now so I can't do it.

Or just do a safe mode boot. It won't be locked in that state.

Ugh. Since I've installed that hotfix, I just can't manually replace that quartz file. Everytime I do and reboot the system, the version that was there before replaces it. So I can't test the DX9b version of the file.

BTW, it turns out that the GB-PVR Recording service was holding the block on the file which prevented me from copying over it. However, it was only since the hotfix was installed that copying over the quartz file became a problem.

Well, System Restore back to a checkpoint finally gave me the ability to copy over the file and have it stick after a reboot. However, I still get my stuttering problem after changing channels quickly (think rapidly tapping the CH+ button for 5 seconds straight). Not sure if it's a side effect of all this tinkering I did or not; maybe if I have time I'll try it on a fresh install (probably around the same time that the next build of the Software Recorder plugin is available; that way I can kill two birds with one stone).

Edit: Although it doesn't seem as bad this time around and as I was typing this message, it seemed to sync back up again. Hmm, may warrent some more playing around.

rtiangha, look up toward an earlier post I made. I reference a program called Replacer to do locked system file replacements.

The reason it gets replaced when you reboot has to do with the system file monitoring done by windows xp. It keeps backup copies of dlls in system32 and when they don't sync, it will copy the backup over the unmatched one in system32.

Use replacer, follow the instructions, reboot and it'll work. It takes care of making sure all the backups sync with the new file you want to use.

Again: Safe Mode

Reboot, After the bios and before the loading screen, press F8 (may take a press or two). Select "Safe Mode" (you don't need netowrk support, etc).

You can replace the file w/o a problem. While you're there, run a spyware check. There's good odds you'll find things that are normally hidden

Or that way.... =)
I just don't like waiting around for safe mode to boot when I can fire up a little app and reboot once. Either way works fine.

Yeah, I know, but the weird thing is that the quartz file never became locked until after I installed the hotfix.

Anyways, am running the DirectX 9b version of the file and while the stuttering during LiveTV does still occur, it doesn't occur as often and if I leave the channel where it is for a while (like 5 minutes), it'll re-sync itself. So it's a little bit better; I'm not scared to change the channel anymore.

Maybe try reclock. Do a search of the fourms to find a link to it.

I did find after doing King's ac3 setup, it doesn't run anymore. That's fine, if setting up the sound that way removes sync issues. Haven't watched neough of a variety of files yet to know.

Anyway, it couldn't hurt to install and leave the defaults and see if it helps. If it doesn't, uninstall it.
