I've never heard of that tuner, and I suspect it wont work with GB-PVR.

The set of analog cards that work with GB-PVR is quite limited, due to the requirement for hardware MPEG2 encoding. The most common analog devices used here are Hauppauge devices. Most of them are internal PCI cards, but they also make a couple of external models if you're going to end up with a motherboard with no PCI slot. (analog only WinTV PVR USB2, or analog+atsc+qam WinTV HVR-1950)

any downsides to running a usb tuner? it looks like none of them have hardware encoding for mpeg-2...is that a big deal? it also looks like the board i want to possibly use doesnt have the specs for the usb stick. this $80 computer is just such a good deal, im gonna find a way to make it work!!

It's only good deal if you can use it for what you want to use it for otherwise it's waste of eighty dollars

yes because gbpvr only really works with tuners that have hardware encoding. (technically, there's a utility that can make non hw encoding cards work but you have to really know what you are doing to get it to work and it needs a good cpu, which the via doesn't have.

I gave up on my usb (digital tuner) and got a pci one instead. It was just too flakey for me.

You're clearly determinded to get the pc anyway ! As long as you accept that there is a good possibility of ending up with a pc that won't run gbpvr, there's no harm in trying.

With some patience, you can find far better deals for your $80. Just a simple memory upgrade on any system that uses DDR memory can nearly double the cost of that PC. Sad Two 1GB sticks is currently priced around $70.

I have a 1Ghz PIII system that I picked up for $40. Used it as a home server for a year. (That reminds me, I need to post it on craigslist and sell it now that I'm not using it any more). The system in my sig has cost me a whopping total of $30, by keeping a close eye on craigslist. Got a sweet Antec case for free and it just happened to come with a working motherboard. Picked up a used power supply for $10, used memory for $10 and another $10 for a used WD 160GB SATA drive. Smile

If you want to step up the spending just a little more, you can find refurbed systems with FAR more power than the one you're looking at, for under $200. Take a look at http://www.circuitcity.com/applications/...-_-CatID_6 for some ideas. While they certainly aren't top-of-the-line gaming systems, you get a decent processor, 2 GB of DDR2 memory and a 160-320 GB drive.
