I've been using XPMCE for years with a PVR500. I just bought an HDHR and have it set-up and working w/ XPMCE. I also have an A100 Popcornhour which is used to stream DVD ISOs, recorded TV, steraming Netflix eic to the Master BR. But... I want a better setup and am checking out GBPVR and (gasp) SageTV.

Sage setup was easy, but I'm balking at the cost of sw licenses, and their extenders. I like that they have both linux and windows solutions that will run on a dedicated headless linux or WHS server.

Ok, back to GBPVR. I'd love my NMT to be what I know it can be w/ GBPVR and want to give GBPVR a whirl, but I've been frustrated finding all the right info I need to get my HDHR set up for clear QAM. Please point me to the right guides or forum posts, Thanks

  1. Run the HDHomeRun Setup.
  2. In the "Application" tab, set the Main Application to "GBPVR".
  3. In the "Tuners" tab, set the tuners to "Digital Cable".
  4. In the "CAble Channels" tab, run a scan on at least one tuner.
  5. Click "Finish" when done.
  6. Follow the ATSC/QAM guide posted at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=43361
  7. While setting up the the capture source, leave the Cable Frequencies selection on "Default Cable Frenuencies"

If you have any trouble/questions, just post back. If you have trouble finding channels during the scan, zip and post the logs folder.

How do you get Netflix on the PCH?

Zed,
I run the Playon server ap on my HTPC. It transcodes and streams Hulu, Netflix, etc to the PCH.

Whurlston,
Thanks for your quick response. I also scoured the forum and have read many posts where you've helped others so I glad to have your help.

Of course I already did all that, It's a bit fuzzy as the guide is not for the HDHR. When I select the HDHR it shows up as a DVB-C device. This selection is greyed out and not changeable. I believe it should show ATSC, but don't know how to get it there. Of course when I try to map channels to the EPG, GBPVR reports that it cannot start the BDA device.

The DVB-C entry is for sub's HDHomeRun. When you run the HDHomeRun setup with the latest version, it should add enties for yours. If you have not downloaded the latest software for the HDHomeRun, you can get it at http://www.silicondust.com/downloads

Then when setting up the capture device, yours should be listed at the bottom.

Cool, it's working and doing the channel mapping as I type. I had actually set up the HDHR w/ the latest sw, selecting GBPVR as the primary, prior to ctually installing GBPVR. Result was only Sub's HDHR showed up. When I re-ran the HDHR setup post GBPVR install, my device magically showed up, set to ATSC. So much thanks for your help.

On an unrelated matter. I've got my HTPC set up like a big custom NAS box. It's got stack of 8 trayless fanless SATA hot swap bays. Ultimately, I'd like to reconfigure it as a Linux Server or WHS and put it in the basement. It will run Slimserver and the backend of a HTPC PVR ap. This is my end goal, only NMT's or the like hooked to the TVs with a server appliance, administered thru the web GUI or remote desktop doing the heavy lifting; recording TV, serving movies, vids and tunes. Do folks have GBPVR running in this manner on WHS, using only NMTs at the TV's?

Ok, not quite there yet. Digital mapping completes but doesn't find any channels. GBPVR seems slow to respond and shut-down. Logs attached, as suggested.

It looks like it's scanning properly and you are getting good signal. Try opening your config.xml in notepad and adjust the following settings:

Code:
<BDAPsiScanStartupSeconds>5</BDAPsiScanStartupSeconds>
  <BDAPsiScanWaitSeconds>25</BDAPsiScanWaitSeconds>

This will let it wait a little longer for the PSIP data.

After my last post, I rebooted all and re-scanned. During the mapping, every channel was detected as Unknown. After I entered my Zip Code, most of them came back with names. But, none were auto mapped. Is this normal. I'm talking over 200 channels to manually map.

I did make the suggested change in the config.xml file and re-scanned; but the result is the same. With my Comcast Digital Cable, that's a boatload of channels to manually map.

It's late, I'm tired and frustrated, time to sleep on it. But as a comparative data point, I did not have to do any manual mapping for MCE or Sage.

Personally mapping channels is a pain, but I wouldn't try to map all 200 (lucky you BTW) at least initially. In 1.4.7 sub tried to implement some new features to simplify this but these improvements still need some tweaking and unfortunately a few people have found the changes do more harm than good. When sub is able to devote some more time to the config scanning I expect it will save many people a lot of time (maybe not to SageTV or WMC levels in North America) Meanwhile don't give up just yet.
