I managed to stop the DVB-S USB BOX service from starting but that didnt help...i gave up...kinda
I swapped the hard disk in this machine (it needed a bigger one) and at the same time installed a fresh winxp sp2
I slowly installed stuff checking if gbpvr was still working normally...everything ok now...
I also noticed my twinhan dbv-s card software install in this machine seemed to be unregedin' an important mux...saw that on forums how to re-register...
i didnt install any codec 'packs' and decoders (like elecard) on this new install...(previous install had several - perhaps not helping) looks like vlc will now do pretty much all i need including showing some 4:2:2 stuff coming from the dvb-s twinhan card...
thanks all who helped
