As unwanted as it may have been, it does come in handy. Season-recording "Ben 10" gets me "Ben 10", "Ben 10: Alien Force" (as well as the misspelled "Ben 10: Alien Foce" ). The kid appreciates that (even if he doesn't understand a single word... ).
I do agree that a certain degree of user controlled restriction is desirable. A Yes/No setting for "exact matching" and/or an exclude field to mention unwanted sub-strings? Just a thought

The way I read it (and may well be wrong!) is that "Ben 10" is the show name and ":Alien Force" or whatever is the sub-title and is ignored anyway when scheduling.
The limitation at present would be how would you schedule "Ben 10" if the EPG showed "Ben 10 Aliens".

Right now, I'd say "you don't" (schedule Ben 10) without manual editing something. Either the EPG's xml to alter one of the programmes to Ben 10, or directly in the database (EPG or a already schedule season recording - never tried it, but I'm quite sure it would work as intended).
Implementing that throught PVRX2 (although I don't consider it top priority), would require reworking the way recording scheduling is created (hence the low priority - too much time spent on fool-proofing it). An editable title field instead of the currently fixed one, would allow you edit out the ignorable sub-strings.
