I recently upgraded my computer from Vista to Windows 7. I was using the SAF codec pack, but I uninstalled it prior to doing the upgrade. After the upgrade, I set my video and H.264 decoder both to use the built in Windows decoder (Microsoft DTV-DVD video decoder).

All my TS recordings (mpeg2 and H.264) play fine, but the analog .mpg recordings no longer play. Looking at the graph in GraphStudio shows all boxes as disconnected.

My guess is that I am missing the filter that splits the MPG container stream. It was probably deregistered or uninstalled by my recent changes. What filter normally handles the splitting of MPG files? How would I get this installed again?

Try playing one of these, then post the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

Does it behave any differently if you tell it not use the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoders, but some other decoders instead?

Thanks for looking at the logs.

I installed the MPV filter. MPG files still fail and the TS files still work. I attached the logs again if you are curious. The only difference was now that when I try to play the MPG file, PVRX2 screen goes black for only second or two then drops back to the menu. With the MS decoder, the screen would stay black until I hit escape.

Windows Media Player also fails to play the mpg files too.

Yeah, sounds like something is missing from your machine, but I'm not 100% sure what.

Does it help if you run:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpg2splt.ax

(or on x64 run regsvr32 c:\windows\SysWOW64\mpg2splt.ax)

I re-registered mpg2splt.ax. It still fails.

Sorry, I dont know then. Since its also happening in WMP, something missing or broken in your Window's install, but its not clear to me exactly what.

You'll probably find you can watch .mpg files in GB-PVR that are still being recorded, since this is the only time GB-PVR doesnt depend on the Window MPEG splitter etc, and instead uses its own built in one.

you will have to have a play with "graph edit" or "graph studio"similar to see what happens when you try and open one of these recordings
if you install k-lite codec pack it installs a few handy tools to sort out what going on
(im not a fan of codec packs but at least with this one you can configure all your codecs )
it also has a tool to fix broken codecs give that i go

if you install the "saf " codecs pack it may work but my only warning is it changes a few things in your registry so make sure you remove all other codecs before you install it and you will have to install them again after you remove it
