I have a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 2250. Right now I am only using it with an analog signal because that is all that is available in my area. That being said, analog video runs at 640x480, however when recording with GB-PVR it captures at 720x480, and when looking in the gb-pvr settings for my device, the only options that are allowed for the card are 720x480, 480x480, 352x480, and 320x240. I am curious if anyone knows if the reasoning I cannot use 640x480 is a limitation in my card, or a limitation of gb-pvr?

Thanks,

AnalogNTSC video in the US is 720x480.

There are very few cards support capture at 640x480 (a VGA resolution), and GB-PVR doesnt support capture at that resolution.

hmmm, you're arguing for a LOWER resolution?
be happy with the higher resolution/quality offered by 720x480...Big Grin

Alrighty. I was simply saying that analog signal is supposed to be 4x3, which is what 640x480 is, but 720x480 is not. I just wanted to verify that I had everything set up properly, and I was just getting hooked on 4x3 vs 3x2.

Thanks,

Pixels aren't always square. You can have any number of vertical rows and any number of horizontal rows of pixels stretched to fit a 4:3 or 16:9 screen.

As dennit mentioned above, pixels arent square. Resolution and aspect ratios are two separate concepts.

For example, a 4:3 DVD has a resolution 720x480, and a 16:9 widescreen DVD also has a resolution of 720x480.
