Hi
I have a symantec personal firewall. It wont allow me to watch tv for example because it cant the front end cant connect to the gbpvrrecordingservice.

What ports need to be enabled? i did some digging and came up with these:
webserver (whatever you chose in config)
GBPVRRecordingservice.exe remote localhost:3360 local 7968
GBPVRTray.exe remote localhost:7968 local localhost:3360

and created a rule for these, but no joy. :p Can someone tell me if I am on the right track?

Cheers
Slay

Both GBPVR.exe and GBPVRTray.exe use port 7968 to communicate with the recording service. The other port you mention is probably a local port number, which changes each time a socket is connected to 7968. You probably just want to allow local communication.

OK sub, I will try setting a rule for 7868 bidirectional for both those programs. I assume the recording service does not need to connect to anything, things connect to it?

The Symantec firewall is OK, but it does have some strange 'modes' which seem to ignore the firewall ruleset! I could turn it off, but I want to enable web admin, and I'm not comfy with my PVR being directly accessible from outside, even though I have a netgear firewall in the way.

Anyone know any good lockdown info for XP? That doesnt break the .NET and GB-PVR?

cheers

If you using zap2it then the recording service also goes out to the respective web sites to retrieve listings.

understood. i am using Bleb (I am in the UK) and that bit seems to be OK.

many thanks for the ultra-quick response. this must be the busiest forum i have been on. had to search for my entry from this morning! Big Grin looks like you could start your own sect. The Brotherhood of Sub. hehe.
