The power button on the MCE remote works fine to wake the PC from full standby, but if the PC has half woken itself to record a show (i.e the monitor is still off) then no buttons on the remote will fully wake it and turn on the monitor.
Pressing a key on the keyboard wakes the PC fine.
I can't figure out why a key stroke emulated through HIP is treated differently to a real keystroke by windows.
Any ideas?

when waking from sleep to do a job, it assumes noone's there so it doesn't turn on display, and the emulated keystrokes could be programmed, so it knows could still not be a person there....but a real keyboard key would *have* to be hit by a person, so it wakes...
i just have my remote power button mapped to start pvrx2, so i hit that one, and windwos notices a program being run, so it wakes screen..
running a program or some other keystrokes work...

are you using post code send messages to pvrx2? if so, windows itself never sees those as meant for itself, so ignores them...[they are targeted to pvrx2 windows only]
if so, you'd need to 'broadcast' a key to get windows to see it...a key sent to currently open window..i use a desktop ctrl-alt-hotkey to start pvrx2 so that does the trick...
[make shortcut on desktop to start pvrx2, give it hotkey]

or there is a program called 'fullresume' that tells windows to turn on the display, if you want to run that upon resume...
or you can use 'wosb' to startup the display every time it wakes to run a job...it allows to run a progrm upon resumes...

Hip just changes play to ctrl-p as far as I'm aware, I'm not using (or understanding!) POST messages, so in theory I'm already doing what you suggest.
I'm thinking maybe HIP doesn't run until during an unattended wake, so there's nothing there to create the keyboard emulation.
I had a look on the HIP forums and some people had reported a similar problem so I guess it's just a limitation of using their custom MCE driver .

hip does still 'target' windows to send the keystokes to, so isn't 'broadcasting' them for windows to see....that's why the global hotkey works, it send to windows progman no matter what, which wakes windows...
if hip isn't running, that would be a problem..

but did you know hip has a scheduler that can run a program upon return from suspend? Smile
so hip has to be normally running to see those events..
do you use the startup checkbox to set auto-start? i use a normal shortcut in startup folder, maybe why mine works differently..

just stick fullresume.exe in the hip scheduler to run only upon return from suspend and you should be good...

Because HIP is not doing it correctly... Moreover the MCE remote is acting like a keyboard (unless you are using a third party driver or some other registry tricks) so pressing a button on the remote should wake up the screen.

You can try other software for driving your MCE Remote: EventGhost, Intelliremote or my software LM Remote KeyMap (I even added an action to turn off / on the monitor if needed, though this will not "fully" wake up the PC, only a mouse / keyboard event - even simulated - will do)

Stéphane.
