I just recently built myself a media center (1.8GHz P4, 512MB) and have everything setup great. I installed GB-PVR (most recent version) last weekend and had no problems setting up the system. I am using software decoding plug-in (running WinTV GO model 190) and the Moonlight MPEG2 encoder. I have been able to record shows until yesterday.

When I go into the TV Guide and select a show to record, as soon as I press record the program locks (shows it not repsonding in task manager). IF I shut down the recording service and GBPVRtray icon the program comes back saying "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it". This is with the tray program shut off or activated.

I looked in the GBPVR.exe log the first time it hung and it shows after hitting record it was sending command to reset the GBtray recording service but it locked up. I even reinstalled the program and plugins and reset up the program but it still locks up. Any ideas? Like I said, it was running fine for a week then started hanging up. Thanks!

Sorry, you'll have to ask normanr your question, the software encoder plugin is not supported by me.

sub: I've had a look at the log files, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong on the plugin end of things. It almost sounds like the recording service is being run twice or there's a firewall breaking things.

I've attached the logs for you to have a look at. It's very irritating that some of the recording service logs are missing during some of the exceptions though :-(

Thanks for looking at the logs, normanr. I m running Panda Antivirus 2004 and I have allowed the GB-PVR progam access to the web. It does connect because the TVGuide program is current and the weather plug-in updates fine. Wednesday night when I was experimenting, I tried to record a show and it showed it recording in the recording section of PVR (this is after shutting down the GBTray and recording services and restarting them) but the tray icon showed red with status sleeping. I couldn't cancel the recording, it just wouldn't respond. Then after restarting GB-PVR app it was gone from the recording section.

did it create .mpg files in your recordings folder? do things work better if you disable the whole of panda antivirus while you test?

Yeah, I have tried the program without the Antivirus program running, same. I did see that there were multiple MPG being created during the recording I tried after the program locked up. I double-checked some settings in GB-config and upon exiting it restarted the Tray icon. It doesn't respond when I rightclick it. I opened the GBPVRtray.exe.log file and found this (sorry, don't know how to attach log file):

4/29/2005 3:23:43 PM.921 ERROR [27] Error creating: SoftwareRecorder.SoftwareRecorder

Does this mean the tray program isn't seeing the Software encoder plgin?

yea, sorry i forgot to mention this one. This really only affects if you force the EPG update using the tray app, but a quick fix is to copy one of the supplied .config files as gbpvrtray.config, and restart the tray app. That will remove the error message.

What config file are you suppose to copy and from what directory to what directory to avoid the error message. I have 4 *.config files (Config, GBPVR, GBPVRRecordingService, and RecorderTest).

Playing around some more, I found that if I stop the recording serivce using the STOP.BAT program it will allow the tray icon to repsond. I did find that when I go to status on the tray icon it's showing 6 capture sources all using tuner1. Before the program stopped recording and locking up, status used to just show it sleeping or recording a program.

all the config files are the same, so it doesn't matter which one you copy.

needless to say that you can't use the same card more than once :-) check to see if maybe there are 6 copies of the card in the config? can you check if there are six when you start fresh, or does it just add one everytime you try and record.

I'm guessing here that after you fix the missing config file things might start working better.
