O.K. Sub, that is clear enough. I will follow your advise, purchase one card with a hardware CAM. I have then the opportunity to try it both with a hardware CAM en Softcam to see how it works in practice before taking the next step.
Our cablecompany announced that they are going to stop within the near future with analogue signal so my current HVR2200's will then be obsolete and the need for a good dvb-c solution is then essential. Other companies in The Netherlands are already stopping next quarter but at least offer all non-paid channels unencrypted. My cablecompany encrypts everything
Thanks Sub for all your help. I will keep you informed on the outcome.

Have purchased and installed the first TechnoTrend 1501 dvb-c card with CI and AlphaCrypt Classic Cam and Irdeto2 smartcard (Ziggo/Netherlands). I can watch live-tv or record encrypted channels without problems. Of course only a single channel at a time because everything is encrypted
Playback on the PCH A-110 en Hauppauge MediaMVP is flawless Big Grin
Next step is to try the same setup with a softcam.
There seems to be a new cardreader, the Infinity USB Unlimited. Somebody with any expierence with this particular cardreader?

do NOT, I repeat NOT, buy the Infinity USB Cardreader!! I tested it and had nothing but trouble, apparently it worked at first, but it gave different readings every time it was supposed to read the same content. Of course, I tested it with a Conax smartcard, but I strongly suspect it behaves the same with all cards.

I'd recommend buying a Phoenix cardreader ( I got mine [two actually] from the Swedish company AD Teknik). Works excellent and reliable and muck cheaper.

If you find a Cardserver that works better (ie. allows more simultanous use) that NewCS I'd be very interested Smile

I have a Smargo Smartreader and that works fine in Windows and there are several websites to buy it from in the Netherlands. And what's great: I've got it connected to a NSLU2 from Linksys, which makes an excellent newcs server. It's cheap and has a power consumption of only 3.5 watt.

Are you using the NSLU2 instead of a NewCS server? What softcam are you using?

If I understand Chris correctly he is running NewsCS on the NSLU2 router from Linksys not another/different cardserver program.
Chris: are you able to make multiple recordings from one or more dvb-c cards with a softcam?
I want to utilize 3 TechnoTrend 1501 dvb-c cards to make 3 simultaneous recordings preferable with a softcam. See my previous posting in this thread. I am a Ziggo customer.......

Yes, I'm running newcs 1.66 on a NSLU2. Unfortunately at this moment it is not possible to run multiple recordings using a softcam in GBPVR. We have asked sub for this and since the next release is a major one, maybe it will be in there. But only sub can answer that. Technically it is possible, since MediaPortal users have reported doing this, even multiple recordings of encrypted channels on the same transponder.

Chris

With some modifications to Config.xml it IS possible, I have recorded 3 shows simultanously from the same transponder, but only the show that starts first was decrypted, the other two had to be decrypted offline. The author of OfflineDescrambler (JosyFun) is currently writing a commandline version of the decrypter and I'm betatesting it, but sorry to say, progress has been a bit slow lately.

As far as I cn see, the windows version of NewCS can support two "users" logged in at the same time, so if one could run two instances of recordingservice it would be possible to record and decrypt two shows. But that may not be desireable for other reasons...
