Upgraded to Win7, occasional issues with sound

Sometimes when I start PVR, it hangs. I have to access taskmanager to kill it.

I'm using HDMI out of the computer as my only vid/sound source.

When PVR crashes like this, it takes my HDMI sound hardware offline (well, windows thinks it's no longer connected).

I have to reboot to get that hardware working again.

Sometimes PVR works though, but not consistent enough to keep me from pulling hair. I highly suspect it's a audio driver config setup issue, tried various combos, but not really getting anywhere.

Was hoping someone can take a peak at the logs and point me in the right direction.

Sounds like a driver issue. What hardware/driver are you using?

For the tuner? H 1600. Updated the drivers from the H site.

Part of the mobo. Drivers came with win7.

Sounds like I may have to switch to VGA output and audio cables.

What is the make/model of the motherboard? Or if you know the graphics chipset: ATI 3200, 4200, etc.

Oh, I forgot to mention. The computer came with vista and a free promise of the win7 upgrade. I got two cd's, the win7 installation disk and a gateway driver disk. I just followed the bouncing ball and let the software install and driver update go per script.

you probably want to update video driver...that's using the MS one, and i'm pretty sure the intel site will have a newer one..may help..
[intel had lots of porblems with hdmi detection before..should be fixed now, tho not sure about win7 ver]

then again, it may be your tv losing detection of the hdmi sound input
[mine 'farts' when no sound plays, as it's assuming 'no sound' as hdmi audio disconnect, and switches to analog audio]
usually mine redetects audio but sometimes i would have to un/replug it..
now i ust use analog audio...not missing anything...

I know it's not the tv. The hdmi device on the computer (sound portion) goes offline. Computer tries to switch to another audio source (line out) when this happens.

Path of least resistance is analog sound and vga input to TV. I'll order some cables and tackle it when I get back from my vacation.

Could still be the TV detection. My tv will lose sound if i pause something and if the TV screen turns off due to windows power settings then when i press the remote and it comes back up i get no sound. I have to exit GBPVR and go back into it to get sound working again. I do not have to restart though, but know its the TV HDMI not redetecting the sound.
