PC Client weird behavior

both is always good never can have to much info of what actually going on
you symptoms sound very much like what i had
if remove your gbpvr.db3 file out of the gbpvr folder and re add your tuners etc you might find it all comes right basically you will have set everything up again
but if it doesn't fix the problem just put the gbpvr.db3 file back

have a search in the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log log file for a locked data base after trying to set a recording from the client (in the server logs)

I finally zipped up my log files on the server side and they're attached.

Tried it again last evening. It was acting the same as before. I can load the EPG on the client and watch recordings, but live TV does not work. I don't even get a "back screen" on the server side. It just sits there on the EPG window as if nothing happened.

try watching LiveTV from the client, then post the logs from both machines.

It seems that this problem was not resolved. I experience exactly the same problem.

I've been having Windows XP Professional with GBPVR v 1.3.11 for a long time. Finally I decided to upgrade to 1.4.7 and to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. First, I installed W7 on a client PC with GBPVR 1.4.7, configured the codecs, renderers, paths to the server. All is working. Next, I installed Windows 7 fresh on the server, on another hard drive partition, keeping WinXP on disk D: as it has always been. Installed the same codecs. Then copied the folder GBPVR from WinXP installation to Windows 7, and installed GBPVR 1.4.7 over my configured 1.3.11. Had a lot of tweaking until finally the server was scheduling recordings, recorded, watched LiveTV, played old recordings and other video files.

Now I have the same problems as KS4UA had:
- Using "File Sharing", I can browse the EPG on the server and playback recordings, both MPG and DVR-TS types, as well as other video files: avi, mkv, mp4. I cannot view "Live TV" or select to watch a live show through the TV Guide.
- The stopped playback position of video files updates on the server, but not on the client.
- Client PC cannot schedule recordings.

Info about my configuration:
- Both the server and client are running GBPVR 1.4.7 and Windows 7 with identical username/password (administrators).
- I have edited Security Properties on the whole C:\Program Files\denvz\gbpvr folder to allow Full Control to Users group.
- I have 3rd party firewall on both server and client, which disabled Windows firewall. I tried to disable them for testing purpose.
- The paths to Recordings and Video Library are exactly the same on the server and the client (mapped network drive, same solution as in http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=44725)
- The pvrx2.exe.log on server does not show any errors, but on the client PC it shows the following error:

[/SIZE]- The server's gbpvr.db3 opens with SQLite Expert Personal as read-only from both client and server. (I even went as far as disconnecting network on the server, stopping GBPVR Recording Service, exiting all GBPVR components. Only after that I could rename gbpvr.db3. Even after that SQLite Expert Personal could only open it as read-only).

As far as I can tell, the problem is that client PC cannot change gbpvr.db3 on the server. But what should I do to enable it? Any help will be appreciated.

I am away from my GBPVR server right now, but I have Windows 7 64-bit on my notebook, so I did some playing around.

First, my observations:
- With GB-PVR Recording Service running, gbpvr.db3 cannot be renamed (it's locked), which I expected.
- With GB-PVR Recording Service stopped, gbpvr.db3 CAN be renamed, but Windows asks for confirmation with administrator privileges.
- SQLite Expert Personal can open gbpvr.db3, but cannot write or delete records, unless either gbpvr.db3 is copied out of %ProgramFiles% to somewhere else OR SQLite Expert Personal is run As Administrator.
- Changing gbpvr.db3 file Properties->Security does not change anything. I tried to add all users and group, including built-in system groups (about 20 total) and give them full access. Nothing.

I cannot think of any other Windows security settings that I can change to make it work, so I am giving up on keeping the gbpvr folder in %ProgramFiles%. GBPVR path will not be C:\Program Files\devnz\GBPVR, but C:\devnz\GBPVR. I unistalled GB-PVR, moved what remained of the folder (gbpvr.db3, config.xml, and logs) to C:\devnz\GBPVR and installed GB-PVR in that folder. Now, with GB-PVR Recording Service running, PVRX2 running and playing a video, I can open gbpvr.db3 with SQLite Expert Personal (not as administrator) and change/write/delete. (I tested it with the PLAYBACK_POSITION table, updated last_position value and could see the result in PVRX2).

I will try this solution tonight on the server, test it with the client PC and report back with results.

I tried uninstalling GBPVR and installing it back to C:\denvz\GBPVR on a server, and then on the client to remove possible future problems. Before running anything (GB-PVR Recording Service, GB-PVR Tray, Config, PVRX2) I looked for any file in GBPVR folder containing the string C:\Program Files\denvz\GBPVR. Most of the files were easily editable in Notepad, like config.xml and .bat and .cmd files of several plugins, but I wanted to stress out that gbpvr.db3 contains references to BDA drivers in BDA_RECORDING_SOURCE table, and to XMLTV EPG (that's my EPG source and I store it in default GBPVR\EPG folder), so SQLite Expert Personal came in handy again.

It worked!

So, now the client PC can save video playback position, can schedule and cancel recordings. LiveTV had some hick-ups, so I had to increase LiveTV pre-play delay in Config up to 5000 ms. Right now I have to wait 5 seconds before video starts, and another 5 seconds for video to stop stuttering and audio disappear and reappear, but after that LiveTV is flawless. I understand that the server starts recording LiveTV show and the client cannot play the recording correctly until it is 5-10 second long. I guess this is normal behavior with File Sharing.
