The other day I downloaded several iPlayer programs at once (OK, about 15!). The download bit was fine - they were queued up and downloaded in sequence. Then the first show was transcoded whilst the second was downloaded. When the second show had finished downloading, the transcode process for that one started, but the transcode of the first file was still running! Pretty soon I had about 15 transcode processes all running at once!! :eek: and the PC was rather slow.

Would it be possible for the transcode processes to be queued up so that there is only one running at once? Even better, could they be limited to only start running in the Scheduled Download time window?

Just a thought...

I'll add it to the wishlist in the next version Cool

Have you extracted the zip file to a directory on you hard disk before running the script? It looks like it can't find your files to copy.

Config issue on PC. Sorted and working nicely. Is there anything to be gained by transcoding HD?

Using 3.0.0.458 but encountering a problem in that the first scheduled download gets downloaded and shows a status of Download Complete but nothing else happens. It doesn't end up in Recordings and no other items are downloaded - and there's no elegant way to remove it from the top of the list.

iPlayerServiceMessenger.log for most recent instance shows:
12/02/2010 01:02:23.668 ctrlMessageSM -> SM State -> The Virtual Revolution - 2- Enemy of the State? = DS_DOWNLOADING
12/02/2010 01:02:23.668 ctrlMessageSM -> SM State -> Dinner with Portillo - The Iron Lady and the Glass Ceiling = DS_PENDING_SCHEDULED
12/02/2010 01:02:23.668 ctrlMessageSM -> SM State -> Horizon - 2009-2010 - 12- To Infinity and Beyond = DS_PENDING_SCHEDULED

12/02/2010 01:02:23.715 ctrlMessageSM -> Found File: D:\Video and TV\Video\iPlayer\The_Virtual_Revolution_-_2-_Enemy_of_the_State.mp4
12/02/2010 01:02:23.715 ctrlMessageSM -> Download has finished on The Virtual Revolution - 2- Enemy of the State?, SM: (DS_DOWNLOADING)
12/02/2010 01:02:24.668 ctrlMessageSM -> SM State -> The Virtual Revolution - 2- Enemy of the State? = DS_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE
12/02/2010 01:02:24.793 smUpdateEvent: threw exception: Empty file name is not legal.

12/02/2010 11:06:15.843 getIPMsgHandler: New Connection Request Received-> from sc440 -> app path: C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\PVRX2.exe

I note that the mp4 filename does not include the terminal question mark that's in the programme name and which is displayed in Download Status list.

I've disabled HD transcode and do not delete intermediate files. Because of similar problems I actually download intermediate files to a sub-directory of the Video Library so that I can watch the mp4 file from there via the PCH when I don't end up with a file in Recordings.

Not sure if exactly the same but I had similar problems but upgrading to latest version of flvstreamer seems to have fixed it

http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/flvstreamer/

I also just download the file to final location without transcode (and later transcode on the fly) though this way you lose the images, seperate folder etc

I guess it depends on your exact situation. e.g. You might want to shrink the file for watching on a mobile device.
Personally I am not sure of the value of encoding to upscale the image when you can do in realtime via your graphics card or via the tv itself.

Just out of interest, can you access the iplayer content from NZ? If so, I guess you must be using a proxy server?
