Sounds good, The real advantage of transcoding HD is when you are using an Media MVP. This means that the download does not need to be transcoded on the fly when you are watching allowing you to FFD and RWD.

It is worth also noting that the HD transcode actually reduces the resolution of HD to DVD size due to limitations in the MPEG 2 standard.

This is likley an issue in spawning the getiplayer perl script. Sad

Pretty difficult to debug though. I would try Flvstreamer and see if it fixes your issue.

Oh, the missing question mark character has nothing to do with it then!

I've downloaded the brand new flvstreamer 2.1c and will put that in place when I have an opportunity to reboot the server sometime tomorrow.

The flv filesize looked too small so I'll do that tomorrow after checking things. Must admit that I don't understand why flvstreamer is the problem as it downloaded the file successfully - I'd thought it was just that the question mark has been omitted at the end of the filename.

I rebooted the server anyway and that cleared the Download Status list so I rebuilt the queue with the (previously stalled) desired scheduled downloads. I can't see where the queue is maintained but it appears that the iPlayerServiceMessenger log is being written every second with the download state of the scheduled downloads and just keeps growing.

Perhaps I should uninstall and start again with the plug-in.

Are you downloading using HD? I have just downloaded that exact file and it works correctly?

mp4 file is 1280x720 and is sat in the intermediate folder as:
The_Virtual_Revolution_-_2-_Enemy_of_the_State.mp4

As the previously-posted extract shows, I got the DS_DOWNLOAD_COMPLETE message and then the "smUpdateEvent: threw exception: Empty file name is not legal." message logged.

The programme name in the DS_DOWNLOADING messages has, as expected, a question mark at the end of the name whereas the file that was created/found doesn't so I wondered if that contributed to the problem.

I haven't tried it on a "download now" basis - only as a scheduled download where it stalls the queue but keeps the process writing the pending items to the log.

The ? in the filename will be removed purposly by the script, that is normal. The problem seems to be related to the empty filename which is strange. That would imply that the plugin could not find the intermediate file after the download had completed

I have tried the same download here successfully, the only thing I can think is that you have a misconfiguration somewhere. It might be worth deleting the BBIPLAYERPLUGIN section of you config XML file and reconfigure all the settings in the config app and see if that fixes it.

Oh, well! I cleared the section from confix.xml and reset using the UI but no joy with that. It all looks the same except that I no longer had settings for the following which are presumably all superseded and no longer required:
QTTempDirectory
DeleteIntermediateQTFile
RunPostProcessingAfterConversion (was false)
IPlayerDLQuality

I note in passing that there was also a <testing> section which included duplicate settings for <FFMpegHQVideoSettings> but presumably that may safely be deleted.
__________

There doesn't seem to be a way to actually remove the plugin via the GUI but I downloaded CommonGBPVRUtilities again and downloaded and ran the latest plugin and did the same for the new get_iplayer installer to update flvstreamer and every other component (bar non-cygwin flvstreamer) but all to no avail (rebooting at several stages in the whole process).

The end result is that when I tried to schedule downloading of two episodes from the same series both items were downloaded (and can be viewed from the intermediate directory) but the first item failed to place anything in the Recordings directory except a jpg ("could not open" mpg file) whereas the second item succeeded!

The issue seems to be that FFMPeg exited straight away and therefoore GBPVR will remove the recording link because it does not exist.

Can you try running the following from the command line.

Code:
C:\Program Files\get_iplayer\ffmpeg\bin\ffmpeg.exe  -threads 2 -i "D:\Video and TV\Video\iPlayer\Getting_Our_Way_-_1-_Security.mp4" -y -aspect 16:9 -target dvd -r 25 -b 9000kb -ar 48000 -acodec libmp3lame -ab 320kb -ac 2 -v 9  "D:\Recordings\Getting Our Way\Getting_Our_Way_1_Security_02930_17_2_2010.mpg"
It will only work if you have not deleted the intermmediate file. (If not try downloading again without out deletion setup.)

Looks like Auntie Beeb has blocked 3rd Party applications from accessing iPlayer content - http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/356230/bbc-b...layer-apps
I can't use this plugin on a test system I have here (haven't tried my main one yet as I don't currently have internet access at home) - I just get "Download Failed" messages. I can search OK, just not download Sad
