I set up an old computer about three weeks ago to try and run gbpvr so I can get rid of my tivo and I can have all of my dvds in one place. I tried Mythbuntu first but I could not get it set up for the life of me and I did not have time to learn a new os. Once I found this software I knew that this software is the best freeware for my wants.
My computer specs are:
XP all updates and clean install
GBPVR 1.4.7
ABIT NF-7
AMD XP 3200
1 gig of ram
on board sound
Hauppauge Roselyn
Nividia GeForce fx 5500
120 gb hd
My cable signal is a standard analogue signal.
My problem is I know nothing about filters, mux, or codecs and I am running into an live tv play back problem. The playback on live tv is very choppy and has alot of artifacts, it is not watchable at all. If I record and play back the recordings they look fine. Also if I turn off live preview the live tv play back looks ALOT better with no chop but I cannot stand the delay in changing channels. DVD's seem to play fine but have a little interlacing issues.
I have have been messing with this system for a couple weeks in my spare time but with my lack of knowledge on codecs I feel like I am just going in circles when I change them.
Can anyone suggest any fixes or settings that can get me out of this slump?
I was also wondering if I can set this computer up as a server and client at the same time? Does it have enough power to be a server?
Thanks for any help you can give me!!
