I'm beginning to think I losing my sanity. Is there hope?

This one is pretty simple. You have selected sub's HDHomeRun entry (he has a DVB-C model). If you check the box that says "Show only tuners in this machine" (or something like that) is should show yours. If it doesn't, run the HDHomeRun Setup and double check that you have GBPVR as the default application. If yours still doesn't show up in GBPVR, post your device ID and I can give you the entries to add to your bda.ini

Also make sure that you have exceptions in your firewall/antivirus for GBPVRRecordingService.exe, Config.exe and PVRx2.exe

The device ID is 101974D5. I wonder why the HTPC detected the tuner automatically, yet this computer did not. They are peers on the network. Could it conceivably be because the HTPC still has a Dvico Fusion card installed (which it also detected), whereas this computer has none?

I just looked at the bda.ini file on this computer and see what probably needs to be done (modify the sub's entry) or perhaps cut from the bda.ini file on the HTPC (which at the moment is not available to look at) and paste into this machine's bda.ini file.

If that's easier than (and as safe as) telling me what to do, I'm fine with that. Otherwise please provide intructions.

Thanks
Jack

While awaiting replies to posts in this forum and emails to SiliconDust support, I am attempting to make sense of what does and does not work on two computers (HTPC and Desktop). I succeeded earlier today in getting HDHomeRun to setup (after a reinstall) on the HTPC. It scans channels and identifies them. However, I cannot yet see or hear them on HTPC using HDHR's native viewer (though I can do that on the Desktop PC).

Figuring this may be a decoder issue (even though I had no problem when I first installed on HTPC two weeks ago) which might be resolved when I get far enough into GB-PVR configuration to address playback parameters, I have attempted to get GB-PVR to scan channels. I have ensured that the appropriate exceptions are enabled in my only firewall (and have also tried disabling the firewall entirely). But when I try to update the EPG, it goes through the motions for several minutes, indicates it is saving the listings and channel info, and then ends — with nothing appearing at any point in the "channels" window.

Here are your bda.ini entries. They should have been added to the end of the list/file but you can add them manually if they were not. If you are using OTA instead of cable, just remove the TUNING_SPECIAL=1 from each entry.

Code:
[Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 101974D5-0]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=1
RECEIVER_ONLY_MODE=1
FILTER_RECEIVER=Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 101974D5-0
PIN_RECEIVER_IN=Input0
PIN_RECEIVER_OUT=Output1

[Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 101974D5-1]
TUNING_TYPE=ATSC
TUNING_SPECIAL=1
RECEIVER_ONLY_MODE=1
FILTER_RECEIVER=Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 101974D5-1
PIN_RECEIVER_IN=Input0
PIN_RECEIVER_OUT=Output1

Yup, that's a decoder issue. Make sure you have an MPEG-2 video decoder (like MPV decoder) and an MPEG/AC-3 audio decoder (like AC3Filter) installed.

Are you trying to use DVB-EPG? That won't work in the US, you need to use an xmltv file or Schedules Direct.

I am using Schedules Direct, appending to my user name a semi-colon and the 10-character suffix (appropriate to the specific tuner — cable or OTA). I believe I am following the same procedure I used successfully two weeks ago on the HTPC. Unfortunately that installation never provided any buttons for resume, REC, FF, or RW and would lock up if I pressed "pause", so I un-installed it. I am now attempting to re-install GB-PVR on the HTPC and to install for the first time on my Desktop PC. The problem I alluded to in my previous post of a blank and silent screen was resolved in HDHR by running a "repair" utility from with their setup program, and smooth playback was accomplished by changing some settings within the WMP11 at the suggestion of SiliconDust support.

Is it likely that I need to un-install GB-PVR and re-install, having "repaired" the HDHR installation subsequent to (re)installing GB-PVR?

I decided to reduce variables by deleting the cable lineup from my Schedules Direct account, obviating the need to append the suffix to my username when editing the OTA tuner (#1) settings. Voila — it now populated the "Channels" window with the correct list of channel names for my location and the "enabled" checkboxes for all were checked. The third column "Tuning Request" appeared, although it is empty (as it was on my first go-round a couple weeks ago). Once again, I am unable to do anything in that column other than to place my cursor. I can type "Yes", for example, but that disappears as soon as I press Enter or click on another cell. Despite instructions from Will or the SUB to do something in that column, I never was able to get anywhere with that — neither now nor two weeks ago — so now as then I simply clicked on the "Map digital channels to EPG channels" bar, which seemed to work the first go-round. This time, I am presented with an error message saying "GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly, and not already in use." Meanwhile, the program continues to scan for channels, decrementing from 116 downwards but never reporting any channels found.

Killing time, I experimented by returning to SD and deleting the OTA lineup and adding only my cable lineup. I performed the same steps with tuner 0 (my cable tuner) and observed the same behavior as I just described for OTA.

Is there some kind of log I can submit which will be meaningful to your expert analysis? I'm at wit's end, just trying to get to the point I was on my HTPC two weeks ago (only to find it would not time-shift, which is essential and my reason for starting anew.)

You cant type directly into that column. Instead, you're supposed to click the 'map digital channels to epg channels' button, which will popup the scan screen. At the end of the scan (on the same scan screen), you need to click the tuning request column to see the drop down list of mapping options.

Reproduce this, then post the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log and I'll take a look.

Things keep getting more and more murky. Even though I had deliberately deleted the suffixes following my Sched Dir username and alternately deleted lineups from SD to correspond with whichever tuner I was trying to set-up (which seemed to crack the nut of not being able to find any channels for either tuner), when I re-opened Config, the suffixes were once again there. I therefore revisited SD and modified things so that I again had two lineups and confirmed that the URL agreed with the re-suffixed usernames in GB-PVR. I also observed that while all channels had previously been enabled in GB-PVR automatically, they had now all become unchecked. When I click on "Empty EPG" in hopes of refreshing the list from scratch, nothing happens. Having twice manually put checks into the complete list of OTA channels, only to see them disappear after clicking OK and re-opening config, I have now checked only 10 or so in order to again attempt to map at least those channels to EPG channels. Again, I see the same error message while the program tries to scan channels (I noticed this time that it was incrementing up to 116, not decrementing down from 116 as I thought I observed earlier). I am attaching the logs you've requested (I have included all 4 of each of the two logs in the attached zip file). Thanks.

This is normal if you havnt done the 'map digital channels to epg channels' step. ie, it doesnt know how to find these channels, so you wouldnt be able to watch them, so it disables them.

Your device definition in bda.ini does not match a device on your machine.

If you run filtercheck.exe then post the filtecheck.log, I'll tell you what definition should be in your bda.ini for you device.

10 characters is too long. I suspect you have the escaped string. "%3A" should be a colon ":" and "%2D" should be a dash "-".
