Is there a way to play video files directly, without enabling and using libraries?

I was wondering if there is a way to simply open a video file directly, without having to have the library. I have hundreds of videos in several different folders. In many players, you can click "File", and then "Open", and then navigate to the desired file - for example.

No, there isnt.

The app is designed to be used from the couch with a remote, and the Video Library is it's (remotely friendly) equivalent of navigating to a video file and opening it.

Just set a library location to the root of the drive in question, then you can navigate wherever you want.

The library does this. When you select videos, navigate to the default folder. It takes you to wherever default is set, which is usually the root directory. From the root you can select and navigate to any directory and play any compatible file.
