when I check the "Allow Service to interact with desktop" under service logon options, I get the following in the event log:
"The GB-PVR Recording Service service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly."

This also prevents the MVPTrayIcon plugin from working.

Has anyone else seen this or have any idea on how to resolve it?

Did you try rebooting?

Yes, I tried multiple combinations of rebooting selecting and de-selecting the checkbox on the service logon page.

Is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\NoInteractiveServices 0 or 1 ?

I checked that also. It was at 0, it still is. although now I don't see the event entry I was worried about. still no MVPTrayIcon though. Myabe I have another problem.
I've looked at all of the troubleshooting posts for this plugin. all the settings appear to be correct. Still no luck though.

For those that do have the above mentioned event log error: I think I solved it by manually starting the service called "interactive services detection" once time and then rebooting. The "interactive services detection" service is set to manual startup type so it should not run after you reboot.

i'd try looking for it in gpedit.msc, and read carefully what the options mean if you find it..
you might also try just deleting that key, as many of the settings have one meaning when key doesn't exist, and another meaning when it's 0 and another when it's 1..may also be related to what type of access for user you logged in as...

pBS I disagree, I would never recommend deleting default Windows registry entries entirely unless I was absolutely certain. The 0 value is correct, I just wanted to be sure.
