Hi!

I just bought a brand new Hauppauge OEM HVR 1600 (ATSC/NTSC) tv tuner card two weeks ago!
I'am using it with Windows XP (Home) , DirectX 9.0c, .NET Framework 3.5 sp1

I didn't buy yet my digital ASTC antenna! So I'am trying to configure my analog TV (NTSC - Canada) !

I have sound but no picture (image) ?
but When I'am using TuningAssistant.exe I can see the picture without any problem!!
I only want to tune (analog) local channels around my house!

Here's my actual configuration:

Capture Source ::
1) AnalogTV
* Recording source : Analog recording plugin --->> settings ---->> Hauppauge HVR 1600 Analog
Country : Canada
Board number : Capture device #1
Source : internal Tuner
Tuning : Antenna

* EPG Source : none

* Channel Changer : No channel changer required!!

but I can hear sound but can't see picture !!??
What I'am doing wrong?

Thank you!

Here's what I have in PLAYBACK window:

* PVRX2.exe Video Rendering ::: VRM9 Custom

* MPEG-2 Playback

Video Decoder ::: System default ---- ( NO OTHER OPTION)
Audio Decoder ; System default ( options are System default or MPEG audio decoder)
AC3 Decoder ; System default (NO OTHER OPTION)
Audio Rendering ; System default ---- (Options are System Default, SB Live! Audio ..etc ) but sound is working fine

* ADVANCED CODEC
H264 Decoder : System default ---- (NO OTHER OPTION)
AAC Decoder : System default ---- (NO OTHER OPTION)
HE-AAC Decoder : System Default --- (NO OTHER OPTION)
DD+/E-AC3 : System Default --- (NO OTHER OPTION)

that it!

In Video Decoder , I don't have any other choice than System Default!

Thanks!

Yeah, this is a pretty good sign that you dont have an MPEG2 decoder on your machine, so its not able to decoder the video.

Try installing and selecting this decoder: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm

Thanks!!!
You were right!!
My analog TV is now working fine!

Here's what I have now under PLAYBACK window ::

Video Decoder : options are System Default and MPV Decoder

this was the only change in this window!

It works fine using MPV Decoder!!

If I want more decoder (is it necessary??) I suppose that I will need to buy the Hauppauge WinTV v7 CD ?

Is there any other way to adjust Brightness, Contrast , Hue..etc than editing manually the C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\direct.ini file ?
see more here http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/MVP#toc4

Is GBPVR capable of tuning my FM radio on this HVR 1600 card?

Great. You have to have an MPEG2 video decoder, but you didnt have one (and one isnt installed with GBPVR).

You can use the Hauppauge WinTV decoders if you want to. There is lots of other decoders out there though.

The settings in direct.ini are the only way to adjust this. Most people never touch these settings though, and just use the defaults.

No. I dropped FM radio support a long time ago.

your video card's drivers usually provide a way to adjust color/contrast,etc...unless you want it adjusted in the recordings permanently..[usually not a good idea] then use direct.ini for changes to affect recorded video instead of playback color..best to keep direct.ini as-is and adjust playback color,etc..

only reason to get another vid decoder is not you're happy with current decoder's picture quality..
